May is preeclampsia awareness month.
Preeclampsia is a serious deal people. Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome are why I had my second at 29 weeks. It has varying symptoms but is typically consistent of high blood pressure and doesn’t have to have but often does involve protein in your urine. It could cause fluid retention (swelling in face, hands, feet and legs), you could have headaches that don’t go away (which could lead to eclampsia, or seizures), you could see spots/visual disturbances, and if you’re like me, preeclampsia can turn into HELLP syndrome which can turn into liver and kidney failure.
Make sure you are your own advocate. If something seems wrong in your pregnancy, notify your OB, the delivery department or ER at your local hospital. There is nothing wrong with being too careful.
