I went from working a job as a teacher aide, 9 months a year. It was great, I loved it and I could’ve seen myself doing it forever. I got the best of both worlds, three months out of the year I was a stay at home mom and I had all holidays off with my kids. Due to financial problems I couldn’t do that anymore so I became a custodian since it’s a 12month position. It’s less stressful but more strenuous and I can not see myself doing this until I retire which stresses me out. 😩

I have thought about it but money is pretty tight. They offer help getting a degree but only if you were already getting a degree for something else. I could look into it again though. I’m just kind of stressing because I’d like out of this job ASAP as it’s wearing me down. But I know it’s going to take time for me to get anywhere else with no degree or certification.

I only worked 9 months out of the year, you don’t get paid during the summer or during the breaks. I couldn’t afford to stay home during g the breaks anymore. Otherwise it’s a wonderful job. I was actually the only adult in the room, no teacher to aide. And it was all day detention.

@dsmccullough, really? I had thought you would get paid for the time off. I know some schools you get paid.

Where I am you can cash out your vacation time for money to use during the summer though. But then you don’t have vacation time for during the school year.
