He cleans his own bathroom and I occasionally make him sweep or mop the floors. I also have him match socks because that is my LEAST favorite part of laundry. Lol I’m working on a list of chores that he will do each day.
At 9 years old I was doing everything, I mean EVERYTHING. I mopped, swept, done dishes, vacuumed, cleaned the toilets, done my own laundry, cleaned up my little brother’s toys (I didn’t have any toys of my own my parents told me at 8 years old it was time for me to grow up so they threw away/gave away all my toys), cleaning up after my little brother, cleaning the kitchen, the living room, cleaning the couch out, and as I got older, and my older siblings moved out of the house the more chores got put off on to me at 11 years old I was cleaning the entire house by myself because my parents were lazy so I had to take care of everything myself.
@-mommabear, I know it’s terrible what my parents done, they didn’t know how to be parents at all because they are alcoholics so they were very hard on me and my siblings growing up but I’m kinda thankful for that now because now I know exactly what not to do as a parent when parenting my son so it’s helped me be a loving and compassionate parent to my son. I don’t blame you every kid needs structure and if he’s not getting that at his dads house then I definitely give him more responsibilities at your house because it’s important for kids to learn responsibility, what chores does he do now? He could possibly clean the bathroom or his room, or clean the living room up so you can vacuum, or sweep, or mop it after wards.
I’ve had a lot of “thank you for showing me what NOT to do” as a parent kind of moments with my parents as well. As of now my son is in charge is cleaning his bathroom, collecting laundry from everyone’s baskets, I’ll occasionally have him help me pick up the living room so I can vacuum, little things like that. I’m thinking of writing down one or two chores per day, that way he knows what’s expected of him and it’s consistent.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has had that with their parents. That’s a really good idea! A chore chart would really help keep things going and it would always help remind him to do it.
Uhhhh·
Kitchen cleaning, bathroom cleaning. Even laundry. At that age I'd let them basically do anything, heck I was.
Even my 6 year old does dishes and laundry.

Well cleaning on room, putting up laundry. If you have pets, have him feed them. Trash duty.
