My lo is 6 months now but i really don't remember when i started baby food with my first since i was so worried all the time she'd end up choking or something. How did you start and what types of food? Also my baby still doesn't sit on her own, and if I have her sitting she always has her head leaning forward like her chin on her chest. Is that normal?

I’m not sure about that being normal, but being able to sit unassisted is one of the signs of readiness. I’d say baby isn’t ready to start on solids until they can sit properly with their airway unobstructed.
I did baby led weaning with my daughter. I started her off with chunks of avocado and moved onto steamed/cooked veggies afterward.

She should be able to hold her head up, turn it side to side, and sit fully upright before starting solids. Maybe wait a couple more weeks and try some purée. Your baby will tell you what she likes and doesn’t like. My son only ate purees from 6-8 months then refused, so we went to finger foods. He hated being spoon fed and only wanted to feed himself. By 10.5 months he started eating meat and bread, but still no dairy yet. I’m waiting until after he turns one.
