Named my son Nikolai but everyone says it wrong — want to change the spelling
Have any of y’all named your child something and the spelling doesn’t match with how you say it and you want to change it? I’m tired of all the nurses saying my sons name wrong, but I know it’s my fault because they are just saying how it’s spelt. My sons name is Nikolai, pronounced like Nik-a-lie-ah. What’s the steps in NC to get the name changed on the Birth Certificate, we haven’t got the BC yet he’s only 2 weeks old.

I thought it was nik-a-lie. Idk how you go about that. He may have a social security number though.

They messed up his name on the SS card so I have to get that fixed as well, they misspelled one of his middle names.

i don’t live in your state however, in my state you contact your county court and it’s a pretty easy process! there’s a small fee (i think like $14), a one page application, then it’s reviewed and either accepted or denied (they almost never deny). call the courthouse and they can point you in the right direction, it shouldn’t be too hard!

i like your pronounciation of your son’s name, but i do think it would cause a lot of confusion since nikolai is a classic name pronounced nik-oh-lie. how would you change the spelling? nikolaia?

@mommy2nikolai, dont feel bad mama! it’s a great name, you obviously wouldn’t know how much confusion there would be since you always knew the pronunciation. considering changing it shows how much you care about his name :) i like nikolaiah, it looks more complete (compared to nikolaia) with the h on the end. but don’t feel pressured to change it, there are many worse name scenarios haha. nikoliah might end up pronounced nik-oh-leah.

girl don't feel bad it's a great name. My name is kristen and you wouldn't believe the people who ness it up. On a lot things they spell my name like christine on everything at work. It sounds just like it's spelled. I like the nikoliah spelling I pronounced that one right.

I'm not sure why but our nurses in the nicu could NEVER get my twin bs name right. Its Ryker sounds exactly how its spelled and they would make up all kinds of names and ways to say it ive never even heard of. A few had trouble with twin as name (Rilynn sounds exactly how its spelled) plus people are ALWAYS stunned that I named a girl Ryker. But these are the names me and my so chose to name our girls and the spelling and nothing could make me change what we chose for them as it was names we loved.

I would have said Nik-o-lay. Nikoliah would probably be best I think the “Laiah” seems a bit too much and I’d say that Niko-lay-uh.
