Breastfeeding mommies what’s your take on supplementing breastfeeding for formula at night? I feel like I’m constantly feeding my LO or I’m not pumping enough for her so it seems like it’s bottle after bottle any advise on what to do to help her get more breast milk before I start supplementing?

Your baby is to small to be taking 4-5 oz at one time, it can stretch her belly out. Are you able to only breastfeed and not pump all the time? Feeding on damand even if its every hour will help with your milk (although 4oz all together is good for how old she is). When they are going through growth spurts they want to constantly nurse and a lot of times it is for comfort not milk. A lot of times my baby just wanted to suck and I'd offer a paci. I breastfed for 15 months and rarely pumped more than a combined 5-6oz.

I try giving her smaller amounts like 3-3 1/2 oz but it doesn’t seem to be enough and I try to breastfeed anytime I’m home (which is a lot) and I try her paci too and she doesn’t care for it to much she’ll use it sometimes but not often

Being a bf'ing mom is not easy. It is time consuming, exhausting and sometime just down right horrible in the beginning, BUT it is completely worth the tough times. I don't recommend supplementing at all. It can cause you supply to drop, hurt your confidence, and cause issues with your bf journey. So many reasons not to supplement. But completely your choice. Please read this book:

BREASTFEEDING MADE SIMPLE

I think it can help!!!

The more you rely on formula, the less milk you’ll (probably) produce. Your baby is still little; she needs to nurse frequently, and that will help with milk production. Also, pumping isn’t a good indicator of what you’re producing. If you’re serious about nursing and it’s working for you, continue to do it! I didn’t make it more than a week or two with my first but with my second I made it two full years! It gets so much easier over time.

She's 4 weeks old so more than likely she is going thru a growth spurt so she's gonna want to nurse more often (cluster feeding). Hang in there mama! It doesn't last forever. 💖

Thank you I’m trying my very best! I absolutely love breastfeeding so if I can continue without supplementing I will!

What makes you think she’s not getting enough? I she might be cluster feeding.

Cause she’ll eat almost a whole bottle then she still seems hungry after 4-5oz and I can only pump about 4 on a good day anymore and that’s both boobs together most times

@mommyof2babygirls, I see. That’s frustrating. Are you opposed to breastfeeding her instead of pumping?Maybe that will help you produce more.

@mojobebes, I usually do unless we’re going somewhere then I pump so she has a bottle and with my medicine (when I take it for school) I can’t breastfeed for 6 hours so I try pumping for that time frame

Have you tried pumping 15 min every 3 hours? Increasing water intake, eating better foods, or lactation supplements? A LOT of water and eating good foods is most important. I fell off my pumping schedule out of pure laziness but I’m getting back into it now. Also bought Fenugreek capsules but I’ve only taken them for a day so far, not sure how much they’ll help

Ive tried fenugreek well I’m trying it now and I make smoothies daily with flaxseeds and I drink water Gatorade and body armors as well. I pump close to every three hours or before she eats then I feed her and 15 minutes each but here recently pumping has become painful for the first few minutes. It just seems to me like when I breastfeed she is on my boob all day
