Attention Moms w/ Girls:
Now I know I have a long time until my daughter starts talking or learning words and everything but for some reason this thought keeps popping into my head.... what did you teach your daughter or what do they refer to their vagina as?? For some reason I keep trying to find something appropriate to get used to calling it so once she reaches that age she’ll know what to call it.
Vagina because that’s what it’s called. No need to beat around the bush and make something that isn’t dirty seem bad to say. My baby just say gina because she’s lazy and doesn’t say the whole word
We just call it a vulva because that’s what it is. Look up the difference between vulva and vagina.

We call it a vagina. Had a bit of a bump in the road because her babysitter refuses to say the word vagina and just calls it something random and she got confused there for a short time, but she knows it’s her vagina. She knows that it is a private part of her and nobody should be messing with it. We also had a UTI scare because she kept holding her pee in, so she knows what her urethra is as well.
She also knows it’s where babies come from, she knows what breasts are and that they’re for feeding babies.
There’s nothing wrong or shameful about your daughter knowing what the correct names for her anatomy are. It’s not vulgar, and in a medical situation (or in a case where someone is messing with her, god forbid) it’s easier to identify what could be wrong where than having to guess what they mean. I wasn’t quite ready to tell her about where babies come from/breastfeeding etc, but they both came up in conversation at some point in time and it’s better to just be honest with them now.
I've taught my oldest the proper bodily anatomy names of both males and females.
Well I can understand that. When we were little my mom taught us that it’s your private part. And that’s what I intend to teach my daughter! I will eventually teach her that it’s a vagina when she is a little older (maybe 7 or so) and can understand everything that a vagina does and is used for. but I would be so embarrassed if we were out and my maybe “4 year old” is like “mommy my vagina blank blank” lol.. whatever is going on down there lol. Trust me I’ve seen it happen. So I will feel so much better if she knows it as her private parts. And explain to her that they are private!
So glad I’m not the only one whose asked this question lol. I never really knew what I should teach them & they called it a nickname for a while until I looked more into it & now we just call it a vagina & that’s what I’ll teach the baby when she’s old enough to wanna learn her body parts.
We call it it’s proper name. She also knows the difference between Vulva and vagina.
I’ve always taught my daughter to call it her vagina. Because god forbid something horrible happens she needs to know the anatomically correct words to use to be taken seriously. Also, I guess it deters predators when they know the correct names and not pet names. She also knows boys have penises and what breasts are.
Vagina or private parts. And I call her brothers a penis. We want to use technical terms or let them know it’s their private parts. She calls hers her Ghina. She called her brother a neenes 😂 she tries. lol
