From my past experience, I know if you’re going to stay with someone who has cheated. If you decide to forgive. You HAVE to fully forgive, meaning not bringing it up throwing it in their face when y’all fight. You have to learn to trust again.
You’re not pathetic for staying. I believe people make mistakes, people deserve another chance. Now if it was to happen again, I’d hope you’ll leave.

I had panic attacks nearly every time he went out without me for the next year, but I chose to forgive him and he did all the right things to earn my trust back. However, I also think it makes a difference in how long you and your SO have been together, if he told you or you found out yourself, and if it was a one time thing or multiple times. I don’t think I would have been as forgiving if the relationship weren’t new, had he not told me immediately and been visibly remorseful.

Mine never full on physically cheated on me but he was talking to a girl behind my back once when we first started dating. I do consider it cheating but I know it’s not the same as being physical with another person.. We worked it out and have a very wonderful life together but if he had actually had sex with someone I’d leave in a heartbeat. As hard as it would be, I’d have to cause I know I’d never trust him again and the relationship would never be the same. Every time he’d leave or pick up his phone, id think he was cheating. My ex cheated on me when he was drunk once and I stayed with him for 3 months after and it just ate at me. It ruined us but I’m thankful he did now cuz I found the love of my life.
