When and how did you mommas start introducing the sippy cup? I know they make 6+ month and we don’t plan on doing it before 6 months I’m just curious!

We introduced it at 6 months with solids. We just put water in it and have them drink a little from it after eating. Then we let baby explore the sippy on their own. We started with a soft spout and then switched to a hard spout. It’s a process. Our goal is to be off the bottle by 12 months and it worked with our son. We’ve started working with our daughter now.

How much water? I thought I was told they didn’t need straight water until 12 months but I could be wrong. I’m hoping to also have him off the bottle by 12 months. Did you son know how to hold his bottle prior to using the sippy?

@price.emil, We’ve been told that once they’re 6 months old and eating solids they can have sips of water. No more than 2 oz per day. We just use it to wash down solids and get them used to a sippy cup. My son and daughter both could hold the bottle at 6 months but it’s not absolutely necessary before introducing the sippy. Our sippy cup has handles that they hold onto.

4.5 months . They haven’t trained ones you can introduce now . I just put his formula in it . My sons gonna be a year next week and he’s fully on hard tip and straw sippy cups . Still drinks formula , just out of a sippy ☺️

@price.emil, my son started holding his bottle on his own around 3 months . He’s really independent and if he doesn’t have to be touching you he doesn’t want to be lol. But yeah I just started out once a day . Then moved it up to where he only had a bottle in the morning and at night . But then he started refusing bottles around 6-7 months because they didn’t have handles . He likes the handles . So we switched him to just the soft spout sippys and kept upgrading to the newer level every so often when we felt was a good time .

our son will hold his own bottle when he feels like it but isn’t consistent with it and can’t figure out how to tip it properly

@price.emil, the tipping part took my son awhile . We had to help him tip it . All kids are different though , we started with the mam training cups, give it a go. It’s doesn’t hurt ! It’s 4m plus!

We started around 6 months. Soft spout with handles. He didn’t like the hard spout. Just water. Moved to straw cups a few months later and then no handles. The down position for the straw was harder since teaching tipping it up for so long got him confused of course. He can drink from most cups now. He never really drank from bottles. Playtex training cups and Dr Brown 360 cup we use.
