riddle me this!!! how the heck can someone take out a cell phone contract at 12!!!! my fiance has an over $2000 thing on his credit report for a verison contract. i asked the debt collector what year the contract was opened and he said 2007.. my fiance was born in 95 so HE WAS 12 IN 2007!! so tell me why they still wont remove it from his credit report and just keep disputing it. any logical person knows that a 12 year old cannot sign documents and definatly cannot have their own cellphone plan

That's so messed up. I remember my hubs having a electric bill in his name he didn't know about. His ex wife did it and didn't pay it.

If you acknowledge that you owe the debt and pay anything towards it, it will start the whole 7 years over again, so be careful with that part.

It’s gonna be a hard fight with them because it was more than likely his parent(s), and unfortunately, parents can sign contracts like this for their children. If y’all never plan on using Verizon, you truly could just keep on disputing or not paying until it falls off, or just pay it in installments if possible. It’s so crappy that parents do this to their children.

That will be very hard to fight. Like others said it was likely a parent. It’s very sad how often this actually happens.

@mom4m, give it time and keep fighting it. If one dropped it the other will too. They just want to make money off of him so if you offer to pay it even a portion then they’ve won.

@mom4m, true it’s not bad but still and seeing that trans dropped it should give you leverage. Still a bummer though you have to fight to get it cleared for something he had no control over

Likely his parents. My mom did it to me with loans, phone contracts, and cable. I have had to file fraud on my credit. I don’t actually have any credit because of it and I can’t get any because no one will extend credit to me.
It’s been a 2yr battle that I still haven’t gotten completely taken care of. They expect me to get police reports even though it all happened years ago in a state I don’t even live in anymore

that sucks. im sorry that happened. i used to have the worst credit and ha e fixed mine up into the 700s in just a few years. capital one has a secured credit card you should try to get . its like a 200 limit or something like that but they. usually require a deposit on it of either 0, 49, 99 or 200 but i used it to build my credit and after having the card for a year they gave me my money back

@mom4m, you can if you don’t plan on using their services. She had to use both so she didn’t have a choice unfortunately. It sucks that parents do that.

@amouryaya09 right.. wed never go to verision. weve had us cellular prepaid phones for the last 4 years and defiantly dont plan on going on a plan at all. i screwed my credit when i was 18 with a cell phone plan. i fixed it, but definatly wouldnt do it again. its pretty shitty that cell phone contracts dont help your credit at all but sure as hell can hurt them

His parents put it in his name. My FIL did the same thing to my husband with credit cards. The debt was ours regardless and we had to pay it.

i figured it was his dad... im just really hopeing to dispute it til they take it off. im not paying $2000 most i might do is give em 200 to get rid of it. but legally he shouldnt be resonible for it because its a fraudulent account

@mom4m, its not a fraudulent account though. That’s the problem. They added him to the account as an authorized user while a minor. Parents can sign contracts for their kids in that way. So it reported to his credit and when the dad didn’t pay. It falls on the authorized user as well. Even if they were a minor when it happened.
