The other day at my OB appt, my Dr said he needed to have the talk with me about having my tubes tied. I had ultimately decided against it due to how my periods were prior to getting pregnant every time, so I decided i wanted to get an IUD and he said he can do it the day of my section. I'll be having my 4th C-section next week and he said although an IUD is 99% effective, he recommends me getting my tubes tied bc it's be dangerous for me to get pregnant again and have another csection. I know I'm done having kids after this baby, but having my tubes tied feels too permanent, ya know? He said he could tie my tubes and still implant the IUD to help with my periods, but i feel like I still just want the IUD. What are the chances of having an IUD fail?

I'd go with the clamps like @beakymcspence said... you've had 4 csections, getting pregnant again could be deadly for you and/or baby and it is possible to get pregnant on the IUD although rare but if it happens that can also be deadly to you and baby

interesting. Wonder why he only mentioned removing my tubes rather than clamping them? I definitely don't want to chance getting breast cancer, especially if it can be caused by something I do or don't do. I'll definitely mention clamps to him Monday when I see him again. If he won't do clamps, I'll just do the IUD.

Actually both of my girls were conceived with IUD’s. My first girl I had Mirena in and my second girl I had ParaGuard

Im going threw same boat i feel safer getting my tubes tied there are people out there that do get pregnet on any birth control ... I also dont neex to worry bout side effects from birth control good or bad... Gud luck making your decision😊😉

I had 2 iuds. My first made me hemorrhage almost to needing transfusions every month, and my second one failed, making this pregnancy a surprise (we are excited, just wasn’t prepared for #2 yet). My husband is getting a vasectomy and I want to get my tubes tied eventually, when I have my reconstruction done

My Dr. Had this discussion with me today and it was my first appt. Im like dam this my first appt. I dont know how to feel about it. This will be my 4th csection as well. But im to young to have my tubes tied. I'll be 26 this yr. Good co-worker of mine has had 5 csections. She always said if God gave them to her he was gonna see her through. I've been worrying about it since she told me this. Even though I don't have to decide to later. Im just worried because a tubal is permanent. This is our last but I do know later in life things change.

@soon2bmommyof4 I think I will as well. I think in the end I'm going to say I'm aware of my risks but I don't wish to tie my tubes as of now. I wish she never put it on my head cuz its all ive been thinking about.

yes, I've declined. Gave him my final decision yesterday at my last appt. Liletta or Mirena (whichever the hospital has on hand).
