How do you talk to your doctor about wanting to be prescribed something? When I nurse my son, I feel terrible and depressed, and I’ve been struggling with the “baby blues” and having anxiety. Am I just being dumb or would it be worth my while to talk to my doctor?

Not dumb at all. Taking care of your mental health is very important, especially if you're experiencing ppd and/or ppa.

Speak with your doctor about how you're feeling.

I just don’t know how I’d describe everything to him. I don’t want to sound like I’m being dramatic, but I struggle a lot lately and feel like I could benefit from taking something but how do I explain that 🤷🏼‍♀️

@-boytribe just tell him everything. Depression and anxiety aren't being dramatic. They're both serious mental health issues. Any doctor who would deem a patient dramatic for their depression or anxiety shouldn't be a doctor at all.

Just let it all flow. That's the best thing you can do to get the help you may need

Don’t feel dumb or that you’re the only one that feels that way. Your doctor should be able to help you. Just be honest with them.

There’s a disorder I guess you’d call it that can make you feel horrible when nursing. It’s called D-MER

I had it with my first son too and I didn’t nurse him at all because of it. I’ve been fighting through it this time, but I feel like it’s making my anxiety worse because I start to dread when he’s hungry because I know how I’m going to feel when I feed him

@-boytribe, I’m not 100% sure there’s meds for it but it definitely doesn’t hurt to ask. You may need to speak with a LC about that though. Your dr may not know a whole lot about it

No that feeling is completely normal. So many moms go through the same thing or something similar. Definitely speak to your doctor about it. It’s nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. Good luck ☺️❤️✨

I'd book an appointment and talk about it.

I'm an abuse survivor and have ptsd. Got on meds to help with anxiety and did counseling to work through triggering moments with my kids. It's hard but there is hope. I was able to breastfeed because of the support I received and this helped me cope with the overwhelming triggers. Again, I'd just be open and honest about how you are feeling and what you're looking for.
