I dont get how there could be so many misinformed pediatricians. Dont they have to attend seminars and frequently brush up and learn new info? I'm also curious about where you are reading. Publications that encourage solids before the right time are so frightening.

I guess my question is why is it still happening?

You have a good point

I’m pretty sure a lot of people lie to their pedi and about the advice their pedi gives and do what they want since it’s their baby. Now not all doctors are up to date but I doubt there’s that many doctors that are that far behind in their knowledge since your right they do attend seminars and they do have to get recertified every few years.

No they don't unfortunately. That's why so many people are misinformed and why it's also super important you do your own research and not blindly follow a doctor.

Not sarcasm, genuine question. how do you know they don't have to stay up to date? How can they be effective pediatricians otherwise? I'm finding it hard to believe they can become a pediatrician and then never have to adjust to remain current.

I agree also I find it odd how a doctor would say the chest clip sits pretty much on the babys belly when they attend seminars

I think alot of these women lie and say "my pedia said" cause i can not believe there is that many coocoo doctors out here lol

My kids pediatrician, with every single one, has told me to start baby food at 4 months. My oldest is 4, so he obviously hasn’t been staying up to date

@foxythecutefox I feel like it shouldn't matter what state you are in. Babies don't become ready faster or slower based on the state. The AAP is a nation wide organization.

@divinely_favored, it should depend if they show if they’re though some kids even walk faster than others too so idk

you cannot tell if the GI system is ready earlier. Studies show on average takes a minimum of 6 months. They didnt just arbitrarily pick a number.

Doctors are only human. They can only take in so much information. They're not omniscient. They have a certain amount of continuing ed to maintain their license and so many things to learn about. Things change often. This is why people should not have blind faith in doctors and need to educate themselves and advocate for themselves.
My pedi wasnt aware (and we call him the walking encyclopedia) until I pointed it out to him. He subsequently went and researched it himself and is now up to date.
Personally, I just found out I have a rare issue with one of my arteries that my doctor had never heard of. It never would have been found if I didn't research myself and push for testing.

But how could he not be aware when thats been the standard with the AAP for years

I think the majority of doctors are open to learning new information, and even the best doctors can still cling to old habits. I have two main pediatricians at our office, one of them keeps up with his continuing education and always follows the latest practices. The other one, not so much. She is still a great doctor and is open to learning, she just isn't as vigilant as the other one. I think it's easy for some of them to stick with what they know. I believe most are willing to learn, and it's super important to keep an open discussion with your childrens' pediatrician as well as your own doctor.
If they say something that you know is outdated and harmful, speak up.

Also, I think it's a sorry excuse to use the ole "the pedi said it was okay" trope, Knowing the information we know.
