Do you discipline your toddlers for breaking toys? Ds3 just came out of a 3 min timeout and immediately broke a toy. He does this frequently and I feel like I shoulda put him back in time out. I 've never disciplined for this but should I? Or maybe I'm overreacting? I just don't get why he deliberately destroys things.

Did he do it out of anger? Or was he just playing with it? If he acted out of anger, I would probably put him back in timeout and explain that breaking things just because you’re upset is not acceptable.

It was not anger. But it was deliberate and then he immediately tried to hide it. I'm frustrated because he does it a lot. Biting holes in stuff, breaking crayons ripping books, trashing his room right after we clean it.

@divinely_favored This is our 4yr old right now. She pretty much takes apart everything. I mean we completely understand she's just curious and being experimental which is normal. She does need to understand that having a good time is great but it doesn't mean you get to tear everything up lol. We've talked to her about it; taking care of your things you enjoy toys etc but it continued so we simply do not replace those toys.Now when she tears up her room ok that's fine..guess what you're going to pick it up lol. My patience is💪
I did notice when she has just a bit more activities to do it doesn't happen to often.

Whatever he breaks take it away and don’t replace it and put him in time out. Eventually he will either breaking them or won’t have any toys left

Deliberately? Then time out. Sounds like he knows it’s not right and testing boundaries maybe?
