It’s really annoying when people hog up the handicap parking stalls and don’t have a permit nor someone who needs one...ice is not an excuse.
Pull up for my growth scan and ALL the parking spots designated for people with disabilities are taken...not one has a permit. Park across the street and my poor JJ actually says sorry you have to carry me mom. We brought his walker and of course it snowed last night so he can’t manage to get it from where we had to park to the doors. Get inside and alert the front desk and a dad has the nerve to be rude to me saying his pregnant wife needs the spot it’s slippery! Yeah my son has special needs and mobility issues he NEEDS that spot to get his walker into the hospital and has a permit pal.
End rant.
Where we are, we take the photo of the license plate and a photo of car with the sign visible. Then go into the building to alert the front desk or reception, because 1) we will be late and 2)maybe they can get the person to move.
Afterward, forward it to the police. I've also called after taking the photos and let the local police come out.
It 100%sucks for your child or anyone else who needs the spot. Your son has nothing to feel sorry about. Its not his fault. And I'm the person who would say to my son in front of this "dad to be", a loud as appropriate, "Son, it's ok, you have nothing to be sorry about, someone was inconsiderate and didn't get a permit to use the spot. Its not our fault its theirs. If they need one they should go down and get one. Temporary ones are available". Then I'd go about my day.
He got a pretty hefty ticket! The police here do not attend parking on our hospital grounds as we have our own parking staff that issue the fines.
Yes but your so far along you shouldn’t have to carry him because that man thought it was okay to park in a spot because his wife was 14 weeks & I would’ve said & im 32 weeks & had to carry my son !
@beakymcspence, well that is so true yeah but like come on that’s just wrong
Wait & you carried your son & your pregnant this far long ? Yeah I really would’ve been so upset !
Yeah I wasn’t impressed. I mean I can carry him but he’s quite awkward to carry that far with his muscle tone issues.
This makes me so angry for you, people have no common sense, I’m glad they got ticked maybe it will teach them
If people do that here they get ticketed and towed. They have specific spots for pregnancy in some places, for pregnant women and/or small children.
They were ticketed they can’t tow from the hospital I work at unless the vehicle is considered abandoned.
Has the thought not occurred to these people that the pregnant wife could be dropped off at the front door and then the car parked?
@beakymcspence I think you did the right thing for your son under the circumstances. You showed him that even though others do wrong that the right way is best and you gave him a "hand up" by carrying him. The fact that he said he was sorry you had to carry him shows that he knows he is able bodied (though limited by his disability) and compassionate to right from wrong and you showed him an example of motherly love and strength. Take a lesson from this and help him know that there will be tough times in life where life doesn't treat him nicely or fairly and that some people will not take care for disabled people or follow rules but that we must take the higher road. That's my best advice. Teach him the best you can and help him rise to his full potential. Sounds like you are raising and amazing little boy. Keep up the great job and advocate, advocate, advocate. Best of wishes!!! Oh, how old is he by the way?
@travis9347, His wife was legit only like 14 weeks. @caiticat., She really didn’t need the spot at all. Every single one of those cars has now been ticketed thought by hospital parking staff. It’s absolutely illegal to utilize a parking spot without a permit like mine 🤬
@caiticat., One of my coworkers upstairs on her break went and moved our SUV into our staff parking so he can at least leave into the parkade. It just bugs me that people don’t realize those spots are necessary for some people. Biggest pet peeve.
@beakymcspence, it pisses me off that people just dont care and think about themselves cause im sure alot of those people wanted to just be closer to the door
@travis9347, Moms at the school will park in the handicap spot and wait for their kids to come out...like it’s ok if you don’t leave your car.
I usually go up and knock on their hood and tell them to move. Darrell is a lot more forward he will sit there and honk at them till they move so he can park lol
I'm so sorry mama! I would be livid especially at the fact that your son felt like he had to apologize for you carrying him because of someone else's stupidity!
What an idiot everytime i was pregnant i parked far to leave the spot for people with special needs cause they need it more , a pregnant can walk its not a disease to be fuckin pregnant 🤬🤬
My husband went to park in a handicap spot once saying he was worried about me getting light headed (I have fainting spells occasionally since getting pregnant) and slipping on the ice - I told him that if he was that concerned he could drop me at the door and then go find a different spot further back in the lot. That's what he does quite a lot now.
So sorry you had that experience! And the fact that your son apologized to you breaks my heart. Glad the hospital ticketed them - hopefully they learn the lesson.
