Moms with kids who are color blind. What was your first signs. My 2 yr old can count to ten say his abc’s and name almost any shape.. he plays a game on my phone where you match the colored fish to the same colored house and he loves this game and plays it 2 or 3 times a day. He cannot get them right for anything and it just seems weird that he can pick up everything so easy and not colors. Am I jumping the gun on thinking this?
Some background my grandpa and brother and cousin are all severely color blind due to a rare eye disease that runs on my moms side. My son does not have any of the other problems they have. Just the color issue.
Honestly, I thought my son was colorblind when he was around 2.5yo. He couldn't for the life of him put colours properly together. I did some "googling" (I'm totally a Google M.D. Lmao 😂) and I found so many articles as to why kids have a hard time learning colors. It has to do with the frequency our eyes pick up the colours (orange and red are so close in colour frequency they essentially look the same ). I'll post a good/interesting article link at the end, but there is lots of information out there . I'd still definitely talk to a doctor if genuinely concerned, just incase there is more to the issue at hand.

It is females that pass the gene on if it’s in the family. He very well could be colour blind. My so is colour blind and his sister has passed the gene on to her son.
I have always heard this. That’s why I am worried even though he is still pretty young
Yes he very well might be. If he can pick up all those other things he should be able to know his colors by now. I would take him to get checked out
@letsmakeahousefull, I would start with the pediatrician. They can refer you if need be
Have you tried teaching him colors not on a phone game? My son took a while to get color games on his tablet but could match them on his puzzles much easier
We do colors all the time. He has a ball pit and I will ask him to hand me a color or to tell me the color. We do this with almost everything in the house. and colors that are close in shade like pink and red or yellow and green he just seems to have a hard time with
I honestly thought my son had issues with colors for the longest time because he could understand everything but colors. When he was about 2.5 it finally seemed to click for him and now he understands. Good luck!
He should be able to still match colors even if he is color blind. Identifying them would be more difficult.
