When did you have the sex talk? My oldest is 8 and we want to start now with at least the basics. Since he could talk, we have always answered him honestly with questions he would ask. He knows that girls and boys have different body parts and their anatomical name. He knows how babies are born and that you need a Mommy and Daddy to have a baby. We have had talks frequently ever since he was old enough to understand what inappropriate touching is and it’s not always a stranger but a family member, friend, teacher and he is to do whatever is necessary to get away and to tell us immediately. Some think he is too young but sex is everywhere and I think if we start now he will be more likely to talk to us openly about it.

My parents never talked about sex. I was told the basics and that was it. I was told don’t have sex til you are married. That’s it! I truly believe if we had open communication I wouldn’t have made a lot of the decisions I did when I was younger.
