Anyone have any tips for tantrums & children who don’t use their words properly, they point & get mad when you don’t get it right the first time.. I asked my daughters school if they think she needs speech therapy & they said absolutely not, so now I’m just trying to figure out a way to get her to use her words

With my daughter when she was younger if she wanted or needed something or if I was giving her something I would repeat whatever the item was and not give it to her until she said it back then get her to say please and thank you

I try and soon as I tell her to repeat the item or say please she would start jumping up and down while screaming crying, this is honestly one of the most difficult things I’ve had to do. Sometimes she’ll say it back but majority of the time she gets upset and throw a tantrum

@gianasmom if you want when she throws a tantrum put it up high so she can't get and walk away. She's throwing a fit so you'll cave and just give in. Nip it in the bud now and stay consistent. She'll eventually get the picture that her behavior is unacceptable.

Not sure since I’ve never experienced that but when our son gets angry we always say, “It’s okay to be mad. It’s not okay to be mean.” So now he really tries to think about things before lashing out.

@gianasmom, Exactly! I heard it about a year ago and I thought the same. So I’ve used it ever since. It’s a good reminder for me as well.

@gianasmom make sure you get down to her level when you talk to her as well like aengs said so she's not feeling intimidated. That can be overwhelming and she'll be more comfortable and willing if she feels comfortable and safe
