Just looking for some input ladies...do you think grade 3 students should be suspended for violence in school? Principal at our sons private school let us know today that another student “jabbed” our son with a pencil in the back today.....wound care was provided (my husbands headed to get him and take him to our family doctor for tetanus shot on their advisement) and I’m crushed for my little guy! I can’t help but feel this other boy should be suspended 😫 Am I wrong?
That looks painful!! It was absolutely intentional. Do you know who the student is? I would find out if the child has done something like this before. It could help presenting a behavior pattern. I’m sorry this happened. I hope you get tot he bottom of what happened. The school needs to get their shit together.
@beckischerger, @laniejay, @mrscg, @mummaof2, The school is protecting the nephew of the principal sadly and has chosen to only remove his recess for that one day 🤬 It was a holiday weekend so today we phoned the board the private school reports to in hopes they will deal with it accordingly!
As for our little guy he’s in good spirits but didn’t want to go back today :(
@laniejay, 😔 I don’t blame him. It sucks so bad when little assholes get to ruin it for the good ones. I wonder what would happen if your little guy decided to turn around and stab the little f er back... then what would happen, probably your little one get in trouble. The system is such bull shit and makes me absolutely sick. I’m so sorry I hope someone does something
Omg, I know this is an old post now but wandering how you went with the school and if you had taken any further action? Your poor son, I would be absolutely furious. Hope all is ok!
I have just read this. I would be asking the school for a copy of their behaviour policy and the incident report. Also questioning why the children were left without adult supervision! Ur poor child!
Wow... I just read this wtf.. some kids parents all need to get involved holy shit that school is bull shit and needs to take action for sure. I’m so sorry for your little guy. Holy man this has my blood boiling
...and that's how bullying gets ignored in schools. Oh .. it was an accident. Riiiiight! Mama .. take it further .. bc those marks are unnecessary and so is the neck breaking remark!
Have the hospital file a report and get the police involved. I would contact the school board and have them start an investigation. Does the school have a book of conduct? Private and charter schools usually have one and the consequences are listed in detail. If they were not followed the board will get involved.
I was suspended in grade 2 for hitting so i mean.. yeah he stabbed a kid with a pencil, to me that automatic suspension
How do you know he wasn’t suspended?
Here we absolutely would suspend a student for that. It was clearly done on purpose, those are deep. Furthermore, the injury required additional care outside of the school setting. Pretty clear indicator that it was purposeful and forceful which would definitely warrant an in-school or out-of-school suspension.
An in-school suspension is usually worse for the kid bc they have to be at school working all day alone, as opposed to at home usually getting a day off bc the parent won’t follow through with a punishment.
@beakymcspence, Wow. I’m surprised she told him that. That’s against law in the US. I almost never say this to people on here, but you need to go in and talk to the principal about the punishment. That is way too little for something so serious. 😒
ETA: Inquire about the school and/or district policies for physical injuries inflicted by another student. Usually there’s specific criteria for that & the punishment that’s appropriate. When/where did this happen? In class? There’s no way that was an accident. I’ve been accidentally “stabbed” by a pencil and it barely penetrated my skin. Go above her if you need to, especially considering the conflict of interest.
@ek_, My son and the other boy did not participate in gym class today because my son has a touch of the cold and the other I’m not sure why he sat out. Instead of physical education the two boys were to be in class working on a small craft project instead, and their teacher was in the “paper room” getting a couple supplies. As we’ve been told the boy began taunting Draidon and chasing him around the room with a very sharp pencil (this boy is a grade ahead of ours as it’s a split so older) Our son said he was scared so he ran to the classroom closet and waited in it until he thought the boy was gone. When he emerged from the closet and stepped out it seems the boy was laying it wait you could say and “jabbed” Draidon in the back with the pencil.
The other boy admittedly told his uncle who’s the private school principal that he was angry with Draidon because he’d not box with him..
I find it odd that they’d tell us it was an accident and that our son fell on the boys pencil, but then tell us in fact it had been a violent attack of sorts. The office secretary even laughed on the phone and told us the situation was being taken as way more dramatic then it really was...um this child chased my son and stabbed him? He’s older then my son? How is this funny in any manner.
@beakymcspence, Wow. It makes sense now why they were laughing it off. No one was supervising the kids which, in the US, makes them legally negligent. I’m sure there are similar laws there. Does the private school have a discipline handbook/policy? I would certainly request a meeting with the principal. I’d also ask for any notes or documentation they have regarding the incident, including any injury report that was made by the nurse. All of those things SHOULD have been done, or at least something similar I would think (they are commonplace procedures in US public schools when things like that happen). I’m not sure how education law works in Canada, but for some reason I have the impression than your private schools are required to follow Canadian law whereas US private schools are not. So you may want to look into those in terms of what’s considered negligence, whether due process was followed to determine what happened in this situation, etc.
I think suspensions would be to easy for that kid he should get detention were hes alone facing the wall writing a long letter to your son plus getting extra work..! I find that kids now a days get suspended but its too easy they do what they want at home!
That is horrible and looks worse than what they tried to play it off as!!!
Yes I do. I’m having issues with my daughter whose in grade two being punched, kicked and called names by a boy in her class and the school is doing nothing but making him apologize. It’s not fair my daughter is and always has been a very strong & confident girl and is now scared to go to school in fear of what this little 💩 is going to do to her that day 😩.
Omg poor girl 😩 I do not remember stuff like this being so violent when we were that age? It’s a holiday weekend here and so the kids are out till Tuesday. I just want to take him and do something special..I can’t imagine how he’s feeling. I was picked on in school but I don’t think that started till junior high!
@amouryaya09, @sarahbethk, @ashleybradford92, Thanks guys. I’m hoping Darrell gets to the bottom of it shortly he was on route to the school and haven’t heard from him yet.
Here our kindergarteners will get suspended for this behavior. Sock it to them momma
You’re not overreacting in the slightest. That’s assault. I’d be out for blood (not literally of course). Find out the child involved, press charges, and id find out how far you can take it with the district as well, especially if you feel favoritism is involved. I’d be livid.

Absolutely needs suspended! That was intentional...TWICE! I’d be pissed and I wouldn’t stop until the appropriate punishment was given. That’s some bullshit.
It would take a purposeful amount of force to penetrate the skin, let alone twice. 😡😡😡
@beakymcspence, you know the reason they deny things is because they’re scared you’ll sue/ their reputation involved or their jobs on the line more than our children in our society 💔🙄 it’s definitely crap and the fact that you’re PAYING?! That’s even worse because they’re supposed to be proper for the money if they don’t improve I’d consider speaking to him about giving a private school cash that deserves and cares more about the kids
@beakymcspence perhaps a police report for assault if they refuse to take it seriously
OMG this is like the second person there kids has Been stabbed with a pencil in two days. I'm sorry for ur baby =(
@doubleksmommy, yes legally they can’t tell u blah, blah, blah. But I’m sure your son will spill the beans. @beakymcspence, if u know the parents I’d certainly call them and talk about it. Was this the same boy?
@ss3mom, Darrell went to the school and they definitely tried to down play it. They are on route to the doctor. When I’d called the office secretary said while laughing our son slipped and it wasn’t that dramatic..but there’s two holes 😑
At the very least have ISD (in school detention) or after school detentions. My son was just given detention because another student was hitting him with something and they weren’t going to give the kid hitting mine a detention until I called and threw a fit!
sounds like assault to me. i’d press charges. he definitely needs to be suspended.
He definately should be suspended. At that age, he knows right from wrong now and needs to know with bad behavior they are consequences. I would be livid.
