It wasn’t the solids it’s just my baby, he’s constipated and I thought it was over the solids but after him being off of it for a few weeks he’s still not pooping normal. I’m seeing a doctor but has anyone experienced this with their 5 month old baby, what were the remedies if any? My doctor said to use suppositories daily but isn’t that bad? :( [he’s on nestle good start probiotic ]

Our second get terribly constipated after we went from breastmilk to formula. We did everything. Dark karo syrup, prube juice, suppositories, changed formulas (we ended up with some crazy expensive stuff and it did nothing to help!) And his doctor even ended up giving him a prescription for something to help him go. That is were I drew the line. I didn't want him to be on medicine to make him go. Talked to my cousin who asked if we had tried a probiotic. I picked it up that night and within a couple of days he was going! No pain, no screaming. And several times a day. We kept him on it every day (a powder one we could mix into 1 bottle a day) for a couple of months. Started doing it every other day, then every third and so on until he was totally off of the probiotic. Everything has been great!

Target but they also have some at Walmart or on Amazon. Google baby probiotic. They are not the cheapest but are definitely worth it!

Have you tried prunes? They’ve always worked like a charm for us! I just boiled them in water for 10-15 minutes and then blended them into a purée. She loved them! They also sell them in the baby food pouches already stewed. Worth a shot🤷🏻‍♀️

Isn’t sugar bad for babies?

do you mean the naturally occurring sugar in the prunes? I mean, there’s sugar in most vegetables and fruit but we still give it to our babies as their first foods. I didn’t add any sugar if that’s what you mean.

I second probiotics. They have some at Shoppers or Wal-Mart called BioGaia. It was a lifesaver for my first who was formula fed.

Natural cherry juice works on constipation or there’s “Don't give her more than 1 teaspoon per 4 ounces. Add a little prune juice to formula or breast milk if your baby is at least 4 weeks old. Normally, it isn't necessary to give your baby juice, but a little is okay to help relieve constipation. (Try apple or pear juice if your baby doesn't like the taste of prunes.) Give her an ounce a day for each month of life, up to 4 ounces for a 4-month-old. After 8 months, your baby can have as much as 6 ounces of juice a day to treat constipation. Help her get some exercise. If your baby's a crawler, encourage her to do a few laps. If she's not crawling yet, try pumping her legs instead. While she's lying on her back, gently move her legs in a forward, circular motion as if she were pedaling a bicycle.

Massage your baby's belly. Measure three finger-widths below her navel on the lower left side and apply gentle but firm pressure there with your fingertips. Press until you feel a firmness or mass. Maintain gentle but constant pressure for about three minutes.

If you feed your baby formula, ask her doctor about switching to a different brand. Sometimes adding dark corn syrup to the formula also does the trick: Start with 1/4 teaspoon per 4 ounces of formula. If that doesn't help, gradually increase the amount. Don't give her more than 1 teaspoon per 4 ounces.

If your baby is old enough to eat a variety of solid foods, cut down on constipating foods like rice, bananas, and cooked carrots. Try giving her a few tablespoons of pureed prunes, apricots, or pears to help loosen her bowel movements. For the best result, give your baby a belly massage first, then some high fiber food.”
