I took my son the the hospital 2 days ago because he was running a fever of 103.2 and was pulling at his ears and also had a small cough they said his ears was red and wrote him antibiotics for infection (ear infection) and said alternate Tylenol & ibuprofen. Well since then in the last 2 days he’s kept a fever and the medicine is barley taking the edge off he’s had a small cough & congestion & he can’t keep anything down other then chicken broth & pedilite on top of his ear hurting. My problem here is that the hospital didn’t check for anything else flu, stomach bug etc. and said it was just his ear. So now I’m concerned it’s something else other then just a ear infection and I’m not sure if the antibiotics they wrote will even clear anything else he might have. My baby is miserable and it’s so heartbreaking😩. Debating on if I should take him back to the dr or just wait for these antibiotics to run their course and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for all the comments.😊 I’ve decided too just continue alternating the Ibuprofen & Tylenol & continue with the chicken broth & pedilite for now. I’ll see how things are with him tomorrow. We’ve gotten his fever at 98.6 right now so I’m hoping I can keep it down with the meds. Like others have said they won’t be able too do much of anything at the hospital so as long as I can keep his temperature down & make sure he doesn’t get dehydrated then he should be fine.

A lukewarm bath will also temporarily take a fever down.

As long as the Tylenol brings the fever down some even if it doesn’t completely break the fever, it is okay. Just like several other people have said, there isn’t anything they can give for flu or a stomach bug. I’d definitely not bring baby back to the hospital and expose them to other germs. Put baby in a diaper, use a cool wash cloth,

Give cool baths, offer ice pops, lots of rest and cuddles.

It's normal for a child to have a fever for a few days if they're fighting a virus. There's nothing a doctor can prescribe for a stomach bug or flu. If it were my kid and they had already been seen, I'd just keep the fever down with ibuprofen/tylenol. Viruses usually run their course by day 3 or 4. If after that, no improvement, then I'd bring them back to their pediatrician

Take him back. If there's another hospital try that one this time

Sorry I just reread that. What's his fever? Is he throwing up every time he eats ?

His fever was 102.5 but I have it down too 98.6 right now. He throws up anything he eats but holds down liquids. I’ve been giving him chicken broth and pedilite.

Take him back. His fever should have broken at this point. Children shouldn’t hold a fever for more than 24 hours

I would bring him back if he gets any worse tonight or isn't better by tomorrow AM. Usually antibiotics take 24-48 hours to start working. The fact that his fever isn't breaking makes me nervous though.

There is nothing they could give for the flu or the stomach bug. I would just keep up with his medicine, keep rotating the Tylenol & ibuprofen, and if he's keeping anything down that's a good sign.
