Teaching my son how to self sooth himself to sleep is the best thing we ever did 🙌🏼 we used to rock him to sleep but I can officially say we finally broke him out of that habit. He was just wide awake when I put him down for his nap, he fell asleep in 15 minutes with NO crying!!😍

Honestly, we just stopped cold turkey one night and let him cry it out. Within 10-15 min he was asleep. The first couple times it was SO hard because he screamed the entire time but he did eventually fall asleep. My ears were bleeding the whole time and I had to fight the urge to go and pick him up so hard!! But now he learned how to put himself to sleep after only a few nights, so he doesn’t cry much anymore when I put him down. He might whine a little bit for five min but then he gets tired and starts rubbing his eyes and then just falls asleep!!

you did a good job doing it early. If I try that now she does this half talking half crying thing and it’s the saddest thing I e ever heard of my life 😂😂 I always give in

Congrats! Nice work! You’ll be so glad you did it now rather than down the road when they’re really aware. Both of my kids have preferred to self soothe to sleep as very young infants. My daughter already doesn’t like when I rock her. She’s like PUT ME DOWN lol. Mom wins!

Thank you!! It was tough but I’m so glad we did it. My son loves to be rocked to sleep and I realized if we don’t break him out of this habit now idk when we will!! Now he actually sleeps longer throughout the night because if he wakes up he knows how to put himself to sleep instead of me having to get up and rock him. It has been AMAZING for both mama and baby!!

That’s AMAZING! Hard work pays off! Overall, raising little independent kiddos is the best thing long term... Even if it’s difficult in the here and now.

Gooodjob!! We were also told by our pediatrician very early on to let our daughter self soothe. It was the best advice ever. Although during sleep regressions we did have to rock her to sleep 😅 Aside from that, she would put herself down on her own.

Thank you!! Definitely the best advice ever!!! Thankfully my son hasn’t had any sleep regression yet but I know it will come someday (I hope not tho😂). Bedtime and naps used to be so stressful, but now I can just put him down when he’s sleepy and know he will put himself to sleep within a couple min 😊

hopefully he is still able to self sooth during sleep regressions. we cosleep, so im not sure if that helped since she knew we are right next to her.
at least you were able to accomplish it while he’s only 5 months!!👏🏻👏🏻

I heard cosleeping does help during sleep regressions. My son sleeps in his crib in his room but we will probably co sleep during sleep regressions. I’m so not looking forward to that at all😩 I’m soo happy we taught him this early on, it’s going to make life sooo much easier as he gets older!! He’s getting heavvyyy so rocking him to sleep isn’t as easy as it used to lol😂😂

We stopped doing it cold turkey. I started doing to with his naps before we started it at bedtime. We get him really really tired before naps and bedtime. I like to put him in his jumper before because it gets all his energy out. Then I just start my bedtime routine after with him. I turn his white noise on when I get him ready for bed so he starts to get sleepy. I give him his bottle in a dark room with his white noise and this gets him exhausted. I don’t let him sleep with his bottle at all. I’ll move a little bit if he starts falling asleep or tap the bottle and that usuallly works. Then after he’s done with his bottle and being burped I’ll lay him down and put his sleep suit on. Immediatly I close the door and leave him alone for 10-15 min. If he is still crying I will go in and rock him to get him sleepy, but I don’t let him fall asleep until he’s down in his crib. I had to do this a couple times in the beginning but now he is a pro and falls asleep usually in five min!! The hard part is fighting the urge to pick him up when he cries but sometimes you just need to let them cry it out for a few minutes so they learn!! He learned very quickly, it only took us a weekend to get him used to it!
