I’m trying so hard not to argue with my SO about this. I KNOW we’re not supposed to reheat a formula bottle after she’s already started eating from it...but why? I follow that rule but he thinks it’s stupid. I tried to google but it just keeps saying NOT to without saying WHY. Does anyone know?

Microwaving formula takes all the nutrients out of it, and formula is spoiled after 1hr. Bacteria grows in formula very quickly.

Yea we don’t microwave we have a bottle warmer. And it’s been almost an hr. What I ended up doing was taking a few oz from a new bottle and warming that. That’s when he got upset saying why didn’t you just reheat the last of the old bottle like I said? 😩😩😩 cuz we cant reheat!!

Bacteria has been introduced into the bottle after use and it’s best to discard after a period of time. The generation time for bacteria is very quick and there is a risk of baby getting sick. For example, E. coli can double its population size in 20 minutes. It’s best not to take that risk with an infant’s health.

Depending on the formula, you should be able to refrigerate any unused formula, and if it’s less than 2hrs from the time you first used it to when it’s refrigerated,(which it should be), you can reheat in a bottle warmer. Most formula can be stored for up to 24hrs refrigerated. You need to either feed immediately or refrigerate immediately or formula can spoil very quickly. You should be using water designed specifically for babies in the bottle already, so risk if bacteria is very low. I’ve done this for 8 months and never had a problem. Most people cannot continue making a new bottle each time if there are several oz left from a previous one. That’s just wasteful IMO to throw out and start over.
I have never seen anything saying not to reheat. Before bottle warmers this was being done on stove tops because warm milk is more soothing and aids in digestion.

None of YOUR pediatricians have said it and I guess you haven’t read much, idk. But it was like the first rule taught to me while still in the hospital

Google has mixed reviews and the instructions in formula would not indicate you can do this if it’s not safe.

I’ve read plenty, as you have and have a perfectly healthy child with no issues from reheating a bottle.

One of your articles literally say it’s not recommended. But I’m not about to go back and forth with you. Like you said you feed yours just fine with no issues. I just rather not risk it. Thanks again ✌🏽
