For the mommas with little ones that had/has a speech delay; did daycare help with their communication skills? My daughter is 19 months & is starting daycare on Monday.. she babbles A LOT, she think she’s talking, but not saying words.. & I’m just wondering by putting her in daycare, will I see a huge difference? & if so, about how long?

My son had a speech delay and he doesn’t even babble. His therapist says that at your daughters age babbling is actually perfect and she is in the right direction to forming actual words. It’s funny cause I just had this convo with his therapist the other day. I feel like as soon as your daughter starts daycare and sees the other kids speaking she will start to try as well. My son couldn’t walk for the longest and as soon as they switched him to the room with the 2/3 year olds then he started walking legit three days after the switch

@massgirl, she does qualify, but I told them I wanted to see how things would go with daycare first.. so do you think I should go ahead & sign her up for the early educational head start programs now?

Yes if that's where she'll be getting the speech I would do it

My son talks soooooo much and he’s not even 2 yet! (He’ll be 2 on the 21st tho lol) but like I can have full conversations with him. The other day I said let’s play with something, and he was like “it’s downstairs” and I was like I think there’s another one up here... and he said “ok” lol. Doesn’t sound like much but he understands and can speak with me. But anyway what I’m trying to say is he’s been in daycare since 10 weeks old and I think that a lot of the reason he talks so much is because of daycare. He says stuff and I’m like where’d you learn that?!

@dope.ass.mom, @darryberry, we’ve had a couple meetings with some ladies from an early education head start program.. but I told them that I wanted to wait to sign up just to see how daycare was gonna go.. but now I’m thinking I should just go ahead & sign her up for the program! Thank you mommas ❤️

If she qualifies get her started as soon as you can. This timing is critical. I've had clients that wait to have their kids evaluated in kindergarten and I swear I want to slap them.

It will certainly help her. She will definitely pick up on social cues from other kids her age. Is she currently in speech at all?? My favorite thing to do as a speech therapist was to go into classroom environments and teach among the students peers. If she's in speech ask if they will go to her daycare for visits as well.

My daughter doesn’t go to daycare but does have a speech delay. I spoke with her pediatrician & they were able to give me a referral for speech therapy. She has had it since she was around your daughter’s age. She has improved so well! There’s a huge difference now. You should speak to her pediatrician!

I didn’t see a difference for my son when he was in daycare but when he started at a educational early head start school is when I saw improvement. He started there a little after 2 and wasn’t saying much at all that made sense. When they first tested him, he was in red below average but after 3 months they tested him again and he was in gray which is average, Now he’s getting ready to turn 4 on Feb 16th and he is in green above average and he never stops talking and we all understand everything he say lol. Mu daughter started the program at a younger age than my son and developed words a lot sooner.
