I feel so awful for all these people who were over prescribed pain medication and now are out on the street using heroin. I'm a recovering addict.
I know we all have a choice. But I never was physically addicted to my drug. I wasn't a regular person that went to a Dr for help and basically had their life signed away.
Every heroin addict I know or have spoken to started with being prescribed deadly, highly addictive, medication for a legitimate injury. Heroin is taking over. Opioid are killing people left and right. It's not crack anymore or meth its opioids.

It really is sad because doctors don't inform people how quickly they can become addicted. Most people assume it takes months of being on pain killers to be addicted but it actually only takes as little as a week. Which depending on why and what exactly you were prescribed, your prescription is longer than that.

I get the sentiment and my heart grieves for those individuals. I always thought that the patient took more medicine than they needed and that's how they got hooked. For some, it took more to help the pain, then they develop tolerance and "need" more to help with the pain.
I'm always so scared to get addicted to pain meds, so much so that I don't even take tylenol, I just ride out the discomfort.
