Never add cereal to formula. It’s a choking hazard and it’s not good for baby’s gut. When baby can sit up unassisted, you can slowly start to introduce mashed and puréed solids.
Everyone always says it’s bad to give it to them but I gave it to my daughter around 4 1/2 months because she wasn’t at all satisfied with her regular formula. It’s ur child so you do what you think is best. Get some opinions form her pediatrician to see what they think. Just remember it’s ur child and no one else’s
We never did. We started introducing solids at 6months and started off with baby cereal and then did puree’s. We did that for awhile because her teeth did not start coming out until 10 months. By 1 year she only had 2 teeth 😂
😂🙈 aw that’s funny!! but my baby is just a month but she hasn’t been gaining much weight so doc has me now adding more formula to the bottles for more calories but people have been pressuring me to add cereal to her diet and says that it’ll help with weight gain but I’ll continue to do as doc say cause he hasn’t mentioned anything about cereal
I only used it to thicken my sons food because he has a hard time eating untill recently but it causes bad their poops to be come hard personally it’s your choice to use cereal but please don’t put it in the bottle unless a doctor had told you otherwise
K my baby is just a month but she hasn’t been gaining much weight so doc has me now adding more formula to the bottles for more calories but people have been pressuring me to add cereal to her diet and says that it’ll help with weight gain... I’ve been reading that it shouldn’t been added until around about 4months and plus the doctor hasn’t mentioned anything about cereal so I’m not gonna worry about it
@cutiepatootie, That’s got to be really hard! I’m sorry. Getting so much advice can be really confusing. Just know you’re doing an amazing job. I’ve always been told that adding anything to a bottle is a choking hazard so that’s what I’ve gone with. Best of luck!
@aengs2, Thank you so much and I will continue to do as I been doing because I haven’t gotten any bad reports from her doctor and everything else is looking good 🤷🏽♀️

@cutiepatootie, yeah, don’t listen to who ever is telling you to add cereal to the bottle, it’s dangerous and not healthy. I would (in my non-Dr opinion) try adding a bottle. Is it that she’s refusing to eat or she’s eating enough but not gaining?
We went from breast milk, to breast milk + formula, to formula + solids. Started introducing solids around 8 months - mushed stuff. At a year, switched from formula to whole milk + food.

@cutiepatootie Cereal definitely doesn't get added to the bottle. And 1m is truly too early to be giving cereal at all, though it was common practice for our parents generation. People sometimes give well intentioned, but terrible advice. If your doc just recommends more formula, stick with that. Babies that young don't need cereal - they need the nutrients in Bmilk and formula.

@cutiepatootie, I did with my first when I was introducing solids but with my second I had learned more and it’s honestly non nutritious. The only thing good about it is that it’s fortified with iron and vitamins. However, breastmilk and formula are too and that’s supposed to be the main source of nutrition for the first year. So honestly? It’s not necessary but I don’t think there’s anything wrong using it once in a while. It’s an “easy way” to introduce solids but so is applesauce and mashed banana
Never. We did babyled weaning. She started home made purees at 6 months only for fun. Closer to 1 she got solids such as vegies, fruits, eggs and finely shredded chicken. After 1 weaned to whole milk.
I'm bf this time around though. That was my oldest.
@cutiepatootie she just had tastes here and there. Like 1 meal only till later on I increased more towards 1. She still had her regular bottles until she was fully weaned to milk.
I can't remember exactly when she was fully weaned (5years ago lol)
Aaw 😩 and k I hope it goes well... my baby hasn’t been putting on weight like doc wants and everyone keeps pressuring me to add cereal to her formula but it’s not time I’ve been reading that 4 months is the ideal time to start
@cutiepatootie, I breastfed but you offer formula first then food. Baby gets all they need from formula/breastmilk for the first year. So food is second the amount of formula/breastmilk doesn’t decrease with the addiction of food.
