Just a little rant here. I would love for some feed back from the other moms:
My apt yesterday went okay. Baby boy is healthy. He actually is measuring 36wks and 6days a head of me. He’s 5lbs 13oz. He’s a little chunky.
I do not have gestational diabetes or anything else to cause him to be so far a head of me. He’s just always been measuring two-three weeks a head.
My Dr said he is on pace to be a 9 1/2lb baby by 38 weeks. She said they will check his growth again at 38 weeks to see if we need to change my birth plan to C section. I straight up told her, no I do not want one. I want to be induced at 36-37 weeks. She straight up said “ I refuse to induce because you baby is big. Just because he is measuring a head doesn’t mean his lungs are ready.” I said that’s why I asked between 36-37 weeks. 37 weeks is considered full term. 99.9% of babies survive. She said no still because she’s lost babies before at that time. I said well we didn’t lose my daughter now did we? She said no we didn’t but it’s not something she will do. I told her I won’t have a C section. So what should I do now? She said because of his size and my history, I might go into labor before then. If I do they will stop him from coming. I’m super pissed and I have no idea what to do. Any advice????
I agree with above commenter. Full term is now considered 39wks. Just because your daughter was okay doesn’t mean this one would 100% be too. Also, ultrasounds after like 32+ weeks aren’t as accurate for weight. They’re estimates, so just because they think he will be that big doesn’t mean he will.
I also don’t think she should be pushing a c section just because she thinks babe will be big. Women have birthed 10+ lbs baby vaginally before.
There’s no way to really tell if a woman who is small framed could birth a baby that big. I’ve heard of small women doing it. If it were me, I’d say no c section and no induction UNLESS Baby is distressed or I become too overdue.
I’ve been measuring about 2-3wks ahead since 26wks and my dr hasn’t mentioned a c section or induction. At my last appointment a week ago i was 31.5wks measuring around 35.
Sorry for the book but I had a lot to say lol
Doctors get paid more when you have a C section so it could be the reason she is pushing for one, maybe try a different doctor if you can I never heard of a baby being to big to come out vaginally believe it or not I know a lady who pushed out a 11 pound baby and everything went fine
First DO NOT let your doctor make you have a C-section because of a "big baby" there is no such thing. Unless your canal is too small which isn't likely since you've already had a baby. My son was measured to be over ten pounds at 37 weeks! He was born at 8.13 a week and a half AFTER THAT. Big babies is NOT a reason for a C-section. Second, do NOT try to have a baby early for being big either! Having meat doesn't quicken the developmental process. You got lucky with your doctor. Some doctors don't consider 37 weeks full term anymore. They consider 40 weeks full term. You're technically allowed to go 2 weeks over due. Keep that baby in and don't let them Force a C-section unless medically necessary. If they keep pushing I'd find someone else. Just my opinion. Good luck girl
First of all, my son was 6lbs 4oz at 34 weeks, they played the same lines with me, hes gonna be a 9 to 10lb baby if he stays in full term. Then, went on and explained the weight on an ultrasound is just a guesstimate! Also, around 34-36 weeks most babies hit their last growth spurt! If your baby has already hit the growth spurt. Which is quite possible the baby will only be 6 to 7lbs at birth! My son, after all that, born 4 weeks later, only 7lbs, 7oz.
As for 37 weeks, by law, they cannot induce you without a medical reason, until you are full term. Which is at 39 weeks. I had my oldest son at 37 weeks, he had to spend 4 days in the NICU, after being induced because my doctor said it was fine. He literally wasnt ready with the fine tuning! We almost lost him. However! That's your choice to risk not mine.
If your that worried about the weight just schedule the c section, a c section at full term is more safe than inducing before full term. However it is physically possible to be little framed and push out a big kid.
Either way, good luck. 😊
I didn’t know they hit a growth spurt! That’s very interesting to know. You could very well be right about that. That’s why I asked if she can check his weight again at 37weeks just to make sure. She refused to until 38weeks. She’s being really strange. Every compromise I ask for she denies. I understand she is the dr and she knows, but I’m his mother and I just have this gut feeling. I don’t want a C section unless medically necessary. She is pushing it. It sucks because I feel stuck ):
@natalie.bolinao yep! The ultrasound tech told me that! dont let her push the c section, it honestly sound like she is a lazy doctor who doesnt want woke up, she wants to write your birth off as scheduled. Dont stress, over it. My baby was bigger. I'm a small famed women as well, so I panicked as well, his head at 34 weeks, was 39 weeks. Which sounded awful! But only 7lbs 7oz at birth. Just wait for the ultrasound at 38 weeks and go from there.
Some babies are not fine then because of the lungs. I think your dr is wise for not wanting to take baby early. It doesn't matter how you have him it's the importance of his health. It's not considered full term anymore either. Not 36-37w.
Kudos to your doctor. 37 weeks is NOT full term. It us early term. 36 weeks is premature.
My advice is to relax. What will be will be.
@laniejay, you would think my dr has her shit together. Apparently not. I’m afraid she wants a C section because it will make her more money. When I took a birthing class they said most Drs now a days want that for their parents
@natalie.bolinao seems to me she said you'd discuss the possibility. There's nothing wrong with discussion. She didn't say (according to your post) that you'd schedule it or you'd have one definitely. That's doing her job, discussing all possibilities.
@natalie.bolinao also just to note- my first I was told would be small, 6lbs or so. He was 9lbs. My 3rd they told me he'd be huge. At 36 weeks they said he was already over 8lbs and to think about induction and possibly csection. I told them i wasnt worried, i had a 9lb before, i could do it again. He was born 2 weeks later and was 7lbs 5 oz. They only one they were right with was #2 and that's only becuase he was born at 23 weeks when they can get accurate measurements. Late ultrasounds are notoriously wrong, by a lot.
I'm small, weighed 110 before baby and my son was 9 lbs. I had a vaginal birth at 41 weeks its still possible. I wouldn't panic. You'd be amazed what your body can do

I appreciate the book! It’s helpful and informative. I know ultrasounds aren’t accurate which is another reason I’m like “ why C section?”. I have a huge motherly instinctive feeling he is going to be bigger than that ultrasound weight. He’s always been measuring a head. Even since my first apt hearing his heart. I’m not sure why they picked my due date so far a head. It’s a little strange to me and that’s been and argument too. Even when I went to my high risk Dr she said she doesn’t understand why my dr hasn’t discussed changing my delivery date. Usually they do when the baby is measuring 8days a head consistently. Which he has. It’s just scary because my dr hasn’t seemed to pay attention to me like she did the first time and I have conflicting opinions from my high risk dr and her.
@natalie.bolinao, that’s different. My aunts boys both came before when they said delivery was and she knew they would as well. On one of them they tried stopping her labor for weeks but the contractions wouldn’t stop. Eventually they just let her go.
I’d be concerned about your regular dr not seeming to pay attention to you. Perhaps you could seek your remaining care with a different dr in the practice or a completely different one?
How big was your daughter? A lot of doctors would probably say the same thing honestly because it isn't full term yet. Is she considering a c section because she doesn't think you can have a vaginal delivery or just because of size?
@natalie.bolinao honestly I would want to try vaginally still but I understand being afraid. With my first son I wasn't able to push him out due to my pelvic region and he was a month early however they said I could try this time to do natural. If you don't want to it seems like your only option is to wait it out at home so they can't stop your labor in time or go with the csection
@liamandlukesmommy22, it’s just scary because of the bicornate uterus thing. He has to kind of make a curve instead of a straight a way escape route. I’ve heard too many negative things about big babies and Bicornuate. But again they are stories. My body is different. I could be fine. 😫 It’s just nerve wrecking. Thank you ❤️
@natalie.bolinao no problem hon. Yea that sounds scary😣🙏🏽everything will go amazing
Many babies are induced or taken early due to their weight. 99.9% are completely fine. Other Drs do because it’s dangerous for the mother. Especially one who has a tiny pelvic region and the baby could get stuck. Putting baby and mother at risk to lose their life. I don’t want to go through that. It scary.
