My son is going to be 3 in march. We’ve been doing the potty training since about July. What are some tips to help with this process?

@sleepymommy, @nmc95, yeah definitely a learning experience. Everyone’s child is different. I started off taking my son more frequently but then I realized he started to get frustrated with potty time. I guess it was too much, and he didn’t care to be bothered with it. But when I started giving him time from the potty and making it fun for him he started to become more interested. Also, I absolutely needed pull ups! My son would pee on himself every night in the beginning, he never woke up to go and I darn sure wasn’t going to wake him up every hour to put him on the potty. lol that’s amazing you didn’t need them. But I also heard it’s easier to train girls, I’m looking forward to training my daughter.

Yeah I heard that too and it’s all on the child as well. Out of my brothers I was the late bloomer in potty training I was like 3 when I was fully potty trained. Also I think he sees my frustration with it as well. I’ll try buying him candy he likes and when he does go I’ll give it to him so he’ll have something to look

Forward to when he does go

@nmc95, yeah I think they can definitely sense our frustration lol but you’ll get through it. Check out “Potty” by Leslie Patricelli, “P is for Potty” (sesame street) by Naomi Kleinberg and “The Potty Book For Boy’s” by Alyssa Satin. You can get all of these from amazon for $5-$6. Idk if you’re son likes books but my son loves reading and these books kept him interested in going to the bathroom. Good Luck!

I second taking him often but WAY more often then 1-2 hours. With my niece (I potty trained) I took her ever 20 minutes and every 5 to 10 after she had something to drink absolutely no pull ups (I didn't use them at night either I bought chucks and took her in the night when I went) we went straight to training underwear and I limited outside the house activities like going to the store during this time so we were always close to the bathroom

@sleepymommy, yeah. It’s just frustrating right now because I can’t be by him like I want to make sure it’s happening. I work first shift and go to evening classes so it’s just hard to depend on daycare to do it when I can’t.

@nmc95 oh I see. I would right out a plan and try to make sure they stick to it. Pack him extra extra underwear so they can't put him in a diaper

My son has been potty trained since he was 2.5 what worked for us was letting him wear big boy underwear. He had a few accidents at first, but He didn’t like being wet so he started being intentional about going to the potty. Another thing we did was time his “potty time” this could be a bit much if you work, but because I’m a sahm I didn’t mind it but I would put him on the potty every 1-2 hours or so and let him sit there for a few minutes. I would also sit him on the potty about 20mins after he had something to drink. At night I let him sleep in pull ups. I also bought books about using the potty and that really intrigued him, and if he has a favorite toy you can “pretend” his toy is potty training also. I would randomly take his favorite toys and say “hold on your teddy needs to potty” and then I’ll put the toy on the potty. He ALWAYS wanted to go too afterwards. It just worked. The last thing I did was reward him whenever he successfully used the potty. We started this as soon as he turned 2 and it took him about 5-6 months to be potty trained 100%. My son became super interested in the toilet and he would take off his diaper when it was wet so we knew he was ready to start training. Now he’s 3 and has been sleeping in underwear for a few months without an accident. It’s a process but you’ll get there. We always do ☺️

Yeah it’s harder for me because I work 1st shift and then I go to school straight after so he’ll be in daycare. I try to take him when he wakes up in the morning. I have to see at his daycare how is he doing with that. I’m getting frustrated with it but I’ll try the underwear method and see if that works an the reward system. I used to go whenever I put him on the toilet and recently he hasn’t been doing it on the toilet.
