My breastfeeding mamas. I only got to breastfeed my son for 2 weeks(he’s almost 2 now) once I started trying to pump and my parents and myself could physically see my milk my dad pointed out how translucent my milk looked. Like it didn’t look like it was very filling and watery. I produced enough and Noah had a good latch but I was wondering if what my dad said is possible? I want to breastfeed this baby too if I can.

It was tranclucent bc at first you have your foremilk witch is more water then fat as you continue to feed / pump it gets less translucent and more thicker witch would be your hindmilk ... If your baby was having the right amount of diapers and was gaining weight properly then you where fine

Yeah his diapers and weight was fine. That’s not why I stopped. An er dr told me to stop for 3 days and give him formula because his jaundice levels were dangerously high...after I did that he wanted nothing to do with me 😞 I tried to keep breastfeeding he just didn’t want it anymore...I was jw for this baby cause I was worried that maybe he also wasn’t getting enough and I just didn’t know.

@bubbys.mommy oh wow I'm sorry I had to supplement with formula at first to bc my babe had jaundice and my milk didn't come in yet I was a lil worried it would confuse him it was hard at first but it's a lot easier now

The fore milk (milk that comes out first) is thinner and more translucent. The hind milk which comes out towards the end of pumping or feeding is fattier and thicker. The first two weeks your body is still establishing your supply to meet your baby’s needs. I wouldn’t judge the nutritional content of your milk by appearance alone.

Like the others said the watery milk is foremilk and that comes out first. Keep feeding or pumping and it gets thicker and turns to hind milk. Sounds like you could’ve kept breastfeeding or at least pump. You probably could’ve gotten him back to the breast with help from an LC. I’m sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully you can be successful with your second, if that’s what you’re looking to do.
