If u going out and wanna have couple of drinks but u are breastfeeding. What is the best way?Can u feed your baby after u had alcohol?Or what u have to do?
You don't need to pump and dump. This is so outdated. I had a NICU baby and educated myself really fast on what was ok and what was not.
You'd have to be blacked out drunk before enough alcohol passed through your breastmilk to affect your baby. Clearly if you've blacked out you're not going to be breastfeeding.
The saying: sober enough to drive, sober enough to breastfeed actually refers to if you're sober enough to care for your child- not the alcohol content of your milk. Obviously you should drink responsibly always.
It’s recommended to pump and dump for a period on 24hrs or more depending on how much drink. It is never safe to wait 1-2 or how many hours because alcohol can stay in your system for up to 24hrs no matter how much you drink. Just make sure you baby has enough milk depending on how much you think you’re going to drink .
@mary8880, feed baby before you leave, it depends on if your baby feeds in the middle of the night, if so pump and leave it so someone can feed him/her... if baby doesn’t feed in the night pump one-2 bottle.... then pump and dump and everything should be fine.
Some women use test strips to see if the alcohol is out of their breast milk, some pump before drinking or feed their baby before hand but you can actually drink and breastfeed. As long as you're able to care for your baby as usual then it's fine once you are so drunk you can't tend to your baby that's too much. Its your personal choice as to which method works for you.
@xxoceanbabexx it's okay. I would never suggest to anyone to harm their baby like that cause I wouldn't do it myself. Alcohol gets in breast milk whether you drink 1 ounce or 20 lol

No need to pump, no need to dump.
