Transparency is essential. I wouldn't go behind his back and look in it but when you two are together, you should gently ask if you can see his phone. If he says no, that's a red flag. Why not just ask who he’s texting with? Or who he receives msg from at night? Im sure there’s nothing to be alarmed of. People usually do it away from their SO eyes or put it on silent.
