(Updated: it the comments I got the helped I needed thank you!) So, I want to exclusively pump.
I’m scheduled for a repeat c-section at 39 weeks.
I know they say that pumping can start labor and I definitely do notttt want that.
Can I pump at all prior to birth or just wait it out? I’m assuming my milk probably won’t even come in until baby arrives, but I’m just over here in my own thoughts.

It's definitely best to wait until after the baby is born. It takes days for your milk to come in after you give birth and that's when you want to start pumping.

As an L&D nurse I’d say absolutely no pumping prior, it’s definitely not something we recommend.

Thanks girls!! This is what I figured: common sense, right? Just wanting to make sure! @asandovaln, @beakymcspence, @momma_queen_pagan212,

It's actually not common to a lot of women. I didn't know until I visited a lactation consultant. 🤷 I'm really glad I did because I knew nothing.

You won’t get anything out until after your baby is born. The placenta detaching is what signals your body to produce milk. The first 2-3 days will be colostrum and then your milk will come in. I’m not sure about exclusively pumping but definitely ask your LC at the hospital.

Do some research for sure cause there’s pros and cons to doing it either way! I’ve been preparing to have a preemie and have been pumping my colostrum so that he has it immediately when he goes to the nicu. I was only given the OK if it didn’t cause me to have contractions which it didn’t. Pumping actually releases less oxytocin than when you have sex/an orgasm so it’s really up to you and your doctor. That being said I wouldn’t start now, I’d wait until 37 weeks if you’re having a normal pregnancy. You won’t get your milk in until after baby is born though so if you choose to pump it will just be drops of colostrum at a time.
