My lactation consultant won't pick up...so ladies i have been having troubles with excruciating pain in my nipples. I've been using lanolin and coconut oil from the beginning so I don't think they are cracked and dry. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it ? Thanks in advance

Do you have any other pain like a fever? Is he latching correctly? Clogged duct

Nope I have no other symptoms at all. I believe he is latching correctly as well. After about 30 seconds of him eating the pain goes away then immediately returns when he finishes

Never had bad nipple pain but you can cry a nipple shield until you can talk to your doc and get it checked.

Though a shield is a good idea sometimes it can actually cause a problem with the latch. Most LC's recommend against it. There are many things that can cause nipple pain and if his latch is not causing the pain you could cause him to have an aversion to your breast by introducing the shield. You said he has a good latch, he may not. I would go straight to an LC for help and it is covered by most insurances. Also speak to your provider and ask about thrush. Thrush in the breast does not always have signs other than nipple pain. And baby can get it. It's not harmful but it can cause pain for baby and mom and create feeding issues.
