Does anyone else baby be so hungry but then soon as they get on the boob they suck a few times than…

They’re just going through that super sleepy phase, especially if their bilirubin levels are high. I used to have to undress my daughter and tickle her because she was jaundiced and needed to nurse as much as possible.

@flamingomom, oh okay I just rub her cheeks and she’ll start again she’s only 2 days old . I’m happy she latches on without problems cause that was my main concern her being able to latch properly

My baby was so fussy and hungry she wasn’t full from colostrum . It felt like I was feeding her all day and she would still be hungry . Her diapers were dry for 3 days after leaving the hospital and didn’t understand why til I took her for her first doc appointment. Turned out she was too weak to suck the colostrum out. She was just suckling on my nipple the whole time and I’m thinking she’s feeding . Watch your baby’s weight ... I had to give formula til she gained her lost weight and I pumped to monitor how much she’s eating . It’s impossible to know how much ur baby is eating if they’re being breastfed . Now that my milk is fully in I breastfeed with no problem and when I feel she’s still hungry I pump and give more .

@maryam1110, oh wow that’s crazy she’s only 2 days old so I know my milk isn’t fully in but I know she’s getting something . she does spit sometime or have milk in her mouth . She doesn’t have much wet diapers yet but she does have poop diapers . and they said they prefer poop over pee and long as she producing one of the two then she’s getting something for sure . We’re going home tomorrow the nurse said she’ll be back in at midnight to weight her she was born 6 pounds 11 ounces and yesterday she lost 4 ounces but they said it was normal they all lose specially breast feed babies . So I’m curious to find out tonight what her weight is now .

I am pumping soon but it’s just to freeze milk I don’t plan on bottle feeding anytime soon

@maryam1110, oh wow I’m sorry your little one had to go through that after you fed you didn’t see milk in her mouth or on your boobs ? I know I did tell them she takes forever but they said it doesn’t mean she’s not eating some babies just be tired and when squeezing my boobs a lot of milk comes out and she has spit up before so at this point they not worried about her being hungry or anything . But like you found out at your doctor I’m sure I’ll find out at mines if there’s really a problem

@verguinia, okay because I’m like I don’t think she’s lacking food just slow and she be so comfortable on boob she just goes to sleep on and off . And sometimes I’ll let her eat for a good min then when I’m like okay let’s switch she don’t even be wanting to switch she be good lol

I believe there's some type of chemical (hormone?) That you release while breastfeeding that makes mommy and baby sleepy sometimes.

@nerdymommyplus2, I’m not worried about her not eating enough I was just wondering if she was the only one who eats and sleeps at the same time but then again I forget she’s only just barley 3 days old lol .

When they’re little the feedings take longer. As she gets bigger and stronger the feedings will become shorter. Hang in there momma!

@verguinia, it is normal hun i just asked the attending pediatrician and she said In the beginning it’s normal for them to eat slow and take breaks back and forth they said once my milk comes in good and they get bigger they’ll be able to eat without being so tired and taking as many breaks . Then she said some babies just like to play around and are slow eaters .
