I rented a house and my whole family has been sick since we moved in, in March. I couldn’t figure out what is was until recently when mice and/or rats started chewing up our vehicles really badly. Then a few things clicked and I started to investigate and found out there are rats and mice in the attic, TONS of them. I remembered hearing a scratching noise at night in the attic and told my landlord about it back in March. He came out and said a squirrel had gotten in there after making a hole in the siding and that he will patch it up. He did. But after seeing my cars, and checking the attic, I texted my landlord that we have been sick since we moved in and that rats ate our cars. He said he will come look at the house. He brought his wife and the first thing they do was hand my husband a $3 low quality or filter for the house. Then his wife starts opening all of our kitchen cabinets and the stove, looking through them. At first they denied any knowledge of the mice, but then admitted to knowing about the mice problem in the garage and that there was a squirrel problem in the attic but hadn’t been up there in 20 years. The argument got heated and they left. Pest control came out the next day with poison bars, and they said the attic insulation will need to be replaced bc of the infestation. Breathing in the dust particles from vermin can make you sick and you can get diseases with no cure, 36-40% of infected people die. I know he will not replace the insulation, it’s been a few days and he says he’s looking for someone. Should I ask him to pay for the damages and rent a new place? Should I sue? #myfirstpost
