In Ontario, are mid wives covered by OHIP? I was on a website and they wanted to charge a consult fee? Is this normal?

Yes either a midwife or ob is covered you just can’t have both.

It should be covered by OHIP, as they are considered part of the health care system.

The only time it wouldn’t be covered is if the midwife in questions wasn’t recognized by the system.

@cookie_melissa, It’s odd they want to charge a fee though, because even if you don’t have OHIP you’d still qualify.

I’d look into it because they may be considered private, and that’s why. You’d want to go with a midwife who’s recognized by the province.

I’m an L&D nurse so don’t feel silly asking questions! Totally normal for a first time mom❤️ I’m on baby number 4 and still ask questions haha
