it’s a horrible word for sure. I moved to Reno, NV last year and im noticing a lot of people still use it. I always call them out on it. Its so hurtful!
I would throw some quotations around that so it doesn’t look like you’re the one saying it, because I also thought that until I read the above comment from @jennatess But that’s awful!!
I had a friend with a special needs brother who went to college with me and became a special Ed teacher. I was lucky enough after being raised in a family that used that word to have someone teach me just how hurtful that word can be to a special needs family. Perhaps you need to educate him.
