Amazon fire hd 8 works awesome. Kids edition comes with a case. There’s a kids mode, and within kids modes there’s games and shows that you can download and watch even when not connected to internet (I.e. car trips/plane rides)
My nephew ( who is 10 turning 11 ) has had his ipad since he was 5. All his other cousins also have ipads. We will probably go that same route for my DD when she shows interests.
