Advice please!
I’m considering Melatonin for my 3yo who is an absolute nightmare to get to bed. It takes between 1-2.5 hours every single night no matter what I do and it’s been going on for close to a year.
What brand do you use?
How long before bedtime do you give it?
Any side effects?
No bashing please it’s my last resort!
Also everyone has melatonin in their bodies already my sons pediatrician compared melatonin to a vitamin supplement but let me know what the pediatrician says and good luck
I had to use melatonin for my three year old he would go to bed at 2 am no matter what I did nothing worked I slowly weaned him off it now he’s been going to bed at 9 pm every night with s nap around 1 sometimes he declines the nap but it helped me
Talk to your doctors. The zarbees kind is good. My daughters doctor recommended it to me for my youngest when we went on vacation for the plan and my oldest daughters counselor recommended it to help her sleep. She has some anxiety and wouldn’t sleep or once she went to sleep she’d keep waking up. She doesn’t take it all the time though just on bad nights if she can’t fall asleep but her sleep music has been helping a lot. You could try sleep music it’s a life saver for my kids.
I wouldn’t give it to your kiddo regularly. Maybe see a pediatrician about his sleeping issues to see if maybe lo has a sleeping disorder or if it’s just sleep regression. If I remember correctly, if you give this to your lo regularly they will have trouble sleeping without it and that would be a whole different problem
of it’s own.
There is a lot of mixed info about melatonin in children, but to my knowledge the long term use has not been studied in children, and every reputable source I’ve found has said not to use for 3 and under. I would try my best to avoid it but if needed I would definitely work with your pedi to come up with a dose, length of time to use it, and for help making changes to your nightly routine. Your child’s pedi should be able to answer all of those questions you’ve listed, and will be much more reputable than anyone here.
I have to my son when he was 3-4 it was a generic brand tiny melting tablet. It worked when combined with routine. I used it for less then a year and then he went to sleep fine on his own.
Her doc suggested I try the lowest dose on her so I got the drops and I’ll be trying it tonight.
