It’s supply and demand. Best way to increase supply is to increase demand. Feed more, hand express, pump if necessary this early. Why do you think you have a low supply? Is baby having enough teeth diapers?
Well she still in the NICU & i can only pump, but everytime i pump i barely get an ouce out & ive been pumping every 3 hours as they said. Is there a time limit that i should pump on each breast ?
@briealyus, I had a NICU baby as well, kudos to you mama- best medicine you can give your baby. 20-25 mins as you don’t want to burn out your nipples. I think there’s a word limit on the replies so I’m going to make another comment with my advice for pumping mamas.
Make sure you have the proper size flanges. LC in the NICU can help. At one point I needed two different sizes and they changed 2x in 10 months of pumping.
Eat dark chocolate, oatmeal, almonds, and as many galactagogues as possible throughout the day. It’s important to get sufficient calories and hydration.
Pump 8-10 times a day. One pump should be between 1-4 am when you produce the most. Don’t pump to a schedule or it tells your body to only produce at those times. Switch it up. Pump one side, an hour later the other. Two hours later- both.
Warm your breasts first. I used a heating pad.
Massage before and during.
Hand express for a few minutes after. Even if you get nothing, it signals your body to make more.
Pump bedside. I used a nursing cover. Especially pump after skin to skin.
Power pump every other day. 1 hour of 10 mins on, 10 off.
Coconut oil is a great lubrication.
Don’t stress. Hardest part.
