@kmsespy, your OB is very outdated. Look up the terms set forth by the AAP, ACOG, etc. there’s different levels of term. Early term, term, full term, late term. Odds are baby would be ok, but full term is ideal for baby’s development. There’s a lot of brain growth and lung development that happens in those last weeks which is why experts have changed the terms.

mmkay, my OBGYN is actually rated the best on the west side of my state, this year. Definitely not outdated. Beside the point though, it might be wise to understand that not every baby develops at the same rate. That 40 weeks is not actually considered full term either, babies come out late, babies come out early.

Also, just because I’ve called it full term does not mean I agree that she’s fully developed, just that her ability to survive outside the womb and continue to grow on her own is comparatively better than anytime before reaching 37 weeks or “term” “full term” However your doctor - online medical website or AAP chooses to call it.

The sources you have come from simply one place- here in America. Rather than many sources that make up the back ground of any fully educated doctor/ OB or pediatrician.

I completely agree that every week counts. Her lungs are mostly developed but that does not mean I said completely, nor would I want her out any sooner for that reason alone.

Also, nobody in the right mind would have their child before 40 weeks unless suggested by their doctor or having a serious developmental problem, it’s very obvious that all 40 weeks count or they wouldn’t make that the due date or date of delivery so I’m using his consideration for easing my mind as a milestone, not a reason to deliver early.
