I have a joint account with my husband and I like it a lot. We both get our paychecks deposited into it & both use it for bills and personal things. The only downside for me is when buying gifts for each other, that’s kind of pointless but we weren’t really big on gift giving/receiving with each other anyways so it’s only a minor inconvenience.
We have a joint account for savings but we have kept out own separate accounts as well. Our paychecks and bills go on our own personal accounts. He pays for mortgage and his own bills while i pay for house bills and my own stuff. As far as everything else goes, we split responsibilities in half. &’ If one can put up more than the other, we do so. We alternate paying when we go out. &’ We help each other out ☺️
We have joint accounts on everything. Even on our business accounts. Makes life easier. I can take care of everything while he is out working. I’m a sahm. For us it’s all about trust.
My husband and I have all joint accounts. The only accounts he isn’t on is the boys savings and it’s only because they only needed one parent on them. We personally don’t feel a need to have separate accounts! For me, it seems shady but that’s just me!
We have a joint account and our own personal accounts. The joint account is for all the bills split in half so a set allotment from our pay check goes to that account. The rest of our paycheck goes to our personal accounts. It works well with us. Also, we only did it once we got married and we were together for 10 years beforehand.
Another thing to consider is your significant other’s financial maturity even more then what your marital status is. You can be married all day long but if they can’t be trusted with money your better off having your own accounts...
I think it really depends on the relationship. We have joint and it works for us. I do think there are times where you shouldn't have one even if you are married. My aunt is loaded and her husband has adult children from his previous marriage that mooch off of him and expect him to bail them out when they need it and my aunt isn't about it so they have separate.
Agreed with the posts above - you need to be on the same page financially for joint accounts to work well. For example, hubs and I are both frugal - save everything, so one of us isn't constantly draining money on something the other sees as unnecessary and frivolous.
I have a joint account with my bf. We have access to each other’s money but we have our own accounts and we always ask before transferring any money from the others account.

I don't mind it at all. We've had a joint account our entire marriage.

My husband and I have joint account. We pay everything else together, so it’s nice to see how much money we have.

We have a “bill account” and our own personal accounts. Personal is for gifts and our dates.

Only if married, imo.
