Had a friend ask me to ask y'all how smoking cigarettes affects breastfeeding. She's trying to quit but can't do it cold…

It could reduce her supply, but more importantly she will pass nicotine and other toxins to her baby through her breast milk.

Just curious did she smoke during pregnancy? If she's breastfeeding wouldn't she have just had the baby? If that's the case the effects of smoking is already there.

Yeah what previous person said my lactation consultant told me when I was smoking and breastfeeding that it was still better then formula though, that was in 2013 not sure if thing have changed.

@witchymama She's still pregnant and isn't smoking but is want to start again when she delivers

@x_graveyard_baby_x gotcha ib honesty if she's not smoking now she should try and not go back to it. I quit when i got pregnant and I actually had no desire to even smoke after the baby was born which was great. But if she isn't smoking now she technically already quit cold turkey which is awesome!

@witchymama I didn't realize I put the whole quitting cold turkey part. I need to hire a babysitter for a day. This no sleep is going to be the death of me.
