Anyone hit a deer and total their car? How does insurance work? We have full coverage but don’t know…

Yea it was a old car though totaled it and they sent me some money for it

My husband hit two in a month. We had to pay our $500 deductible and had it fixed both times. We had rental insurance so he got a car to drive in the meantime. Not quite sure if they total it, but I think they give you what the car is worth.

@momof3dragons, for what the car was worth when you signed up or for what it was worth after the damage?

@blueismycolor, its totaled and won’t be able to be fixed 🙄 and of course we decided not to do the rental insurance part of it so we are literally down a vehicle

@paigerue2013 this was like 8 yrs ago i don't think they give me much back maybe 2500 probably worth at least 4000 at the time before i hit the deer

@paigerue2013, They should give you market value. You can look it up on Kbb.com and get a good estimate. Hopefully they won’t take long so you can get a new ride.

@boosienana, you have the pay the deductible first and then they give you money for it?? And we put a big down payment down on it and owe less then what it was worth

@blueismycolor, I hope they don’t take that long either 😭 it was my husband who hit the deer not me but still! Hopefully we can get a vehicle alkali exactly like it! It was like my pride and joy and I saved up for so long to buy a nice one!
