I’d be more concerned about giving a 1 year old their own iPad to stare at endlessly. And are they going to be paying the service bill? Honestly I’d just tell them you don’t want her to have electronics yet and ask them to choose another gift.

If they give you any flak about it, just accept it and put it on a shelf until she's old enough. Just because she's gifted it doesn't mean she needs to use it right away (or ever).

Do you think they're trying to show you up? To whom? Your daughter is 1 - she won't remember or care who got her what.

Hey you are throwing her a bday party. Those are expensive. I think it’s awesome they are buying her an ipad. It’s nice when relatives buy things that may be a bit difficult to afford. You don’t have to use it for her yet—- make sure you get a nice case for it though! You can even use it as a baby monitor if you’re not ready for her to play with it yet. Or just on car trips. It will be helpful when baby#2 comes if you need a quick distraction during bath time etc.

Leave it on the shelf for emergencies, or get a good good case... My LO, when she was around 1, she stole my fire tablet (the cheapie one) and while she loved to listen and watch it, she also LOVED to hang it on the floor....

Warn them that your LO is 1, and doesn't have the sense to care that it's electronics...lol so they better be prepared for it to be damaged in under a year.

That being said, you sure they're not doing a refurbished one, I saw them for $100 recently, was thinking of getting my lo one now... She's 3...

@blackfire7887, knowing his parents especially his mom she’s probably buying the newest of new. Thats just how she is🙄 i was thinking of maybe just getting her a leapfrog tablet. Atleast then it already has the educational stuff on there.

@ash101398, true... Do it before electronics ruins them...LOL. My LO knows how to navigate the iPad better than my mom.... But we put some educational apps on it... She mostly watches YouTube though... And she doesn't watch a TV.

The leapfrog though, she didn't care for. I packed it away. May try again soon though

Be careful with those leapfrog books, my LO tore them up... thought it was funny... They're a little pricy.....😞

Honestly our family spends quite a bit on my son. I take it as a win. He doesn’t understand right now. I do try to find a really cool gift I think he’d be really excited about.

If I was in you position with the iPad, I’d just limit her usage. An hour an night or when she being good. They can’t tell you how to use their gift. 😊

I agree with the other moms. Accept it and put wat games u feel are age appropriate for her on it. It'll b a good and worthy gift in the end

@ash101398, just a reminder....don't use your Apple ID on the iPad.... My LOs favorite thing to do was to take pictures, and look at them in the camera roll, .... and delete...😆

That may be expensive but in all honesty having that for your child is amazing. They have an awesome feature on it that ensures your child stays on one app and can't turn anything up or down or off. It's amazing. No other device really has that feature. I would look at it as money you guys can save for other things your child may need. My first loves watching educational videos and doing games and I do not have to worry about anything while they do that and things have a time limit. This is one device your child could utilize for a while and you guys can too.

I got my 1 year old the new Amazon fire 8 tablet with a pink childproof case. I preordered it so it arrived Oct 4, the day it was released. She’s used it 4-5 times and for a grand total of 2 minutes. Doesn’t care about it one bit. 😂😂 those gifts are definitely not for 1 year olds whatsoever. I say keep it and give it to her every now and then to play with. A little bit couldn’t hurt. Or let her sit with it and she will tire of it just the same as all her other toys maybe.
