Did any of you other breastfeeding 🤱🏼 mommy’s out there ever have to pump and dump? If you did, why did you have to? What’s your story? I did with my first and well In the end breast feeding didn’t end up the way I wanted it to.
Always follow up with a lactation specialist too though. They have more specific knowledge on medication safety and breastfeeding, as general doctors aren't well trained on it. Some moms like to add milk to baths. It helps with diaper rash, skin conditions etc.
@kambam, well I did have to take medication and at least twice a day for a week and well I was not able to breastfeed at all as I wanted to. My dr told me that it wouldn’t be safe for the baby. I was taking an antibiotic. What do you mean it can be used for bath? I’ve never heard of that??
Theres no reason to pump and dump. If you HAVE to take a medication that isnt compatible with breastfeeding, the milk can still be used for bath. Theres a waiting period for most rx, usually 2-4h wait and its safe to nurse again. Or nursing before a risk. For future concerns theres always infantrisk website and hotline. And always letting health officials know you're breastfeeding. Ive never pumped and dumped, in conclusion.
