Doctors are frustrating me. My husband has a kidney infection. He’s had it for about two months but it didn’t start bothering him until about 3 weeks ago. We went to the Er and found out he had a kidney infection and a kidney stone. They gave him antibiotics and sent him home to pass the stone. A week goes by and he’s throwing up again and goes back to Er. They give him a different antibiotic and send him home after they confirm he still has the stone and infection. Another week goes by and it still getting worse and they decided to take out the stone because he should’ve passed it by then and he’s not getting better. They took it out this Monday and they placed a stent. He continued to get worse and was almost septic by the time he came to the Er last night. The urologist came in today and said the reason he has a kidney infection is because of the stone removal. He had the infection before they did anything and she’s telling me I’m wrong. Smh

@mommytok, we did see a urologist as well as go to the Er because his infection kept getting worse and when we called each time they said to go to the Er

@ek620, right, I said primary should’ve given the referral. Primary care is what pcp stands for lol. I say the same thing (jack of all, expert in nothing) about family doctors too 😬

@mommytok, I agree. ER doctors are jacks of all trades, so not really experts in everything. They usually don’t do a referral & instead say to follow up with your PCP. The PCP then makes the referral.

Just to be devils advocate for a minute and defend the ER, his primary care should’ve referred him to a urologist who he should’ve seen regularly through this. The ER isn’t the best place for regular care.

@garay88 I feel this way too. My mom had gall bladder problems for months and every time she'd go into the ER, they'd give her morphine or fetnal and send her home instead of running tests to figure out what was wrong.

Some doctors suck. And sadly this won’t be the last time he’ll have stones and infections
