So I'm writing this here because it's something I can't say to my husband's side of the family. It is a Mom's decision whether they are comfortable with their child getting sick. I don't care if you read articles about the importance of exposing your children to illness. Your child is not my child so you can feel free to do what ever you please. However, when I express that if your children are ill we won't be coming to family gatherings and you choose to lie about it, I will stop allowing them to see you. Things are different for us. My child has asthma. A cold for her is much different then a cold for a child without asthma. You don't understand what the nights of waking up every four hours to do nebulizer treatment looks like. You don't realize we have to change the bed up to six times a night because her lungs are inflammed and when she coughs she ends up not being able to stop and eventually vomits. She can't eat any dry foods and extreme temperatures of hot and cold (including air) kick off coughing spells. The trips to the Dr that we have to take with every cold are expensive along with the inhalers and Nebulizer to treat them. You aren't here for it. Don't you dare call me overprotective. Don't you dare send me articles about allowing illness in the household for the good of your child. Don't you dare lie to me about the health of your children and then say it will be good for her to be exposed when I call you out on it. My child is not your child and her illness doesn't look like theirs. Rant over.. Now to go take care of my sick kids

You’re your baby’s #1 voice and advocate, so what you have to do for your family! I agree with you 100% it’s not their child they don’t get to make those kinds of decisions for you! Keep that baby safe!

Say it. I have said it for years. Having a medical needs child is not the same as other people. They need to back the f up.

This is in general! Some of us can't afford to stay home from work for dr app. Some of us can't afford the sickness to go around from child to parent to parent. Some of us just don't want to keep our kids home from school or see them sick. I had a daughter with a heart defect and when someone was sick or their kid I asked them to leave our house or I'd leave the event. I couldn't afford the life and death hospital trip for a cold. Even now when I see someone sick I'm a crazy about it and a germ freak. Because someone lied about not being sick at a gathering my daughter got sick and her last surgery got put off and because it was put off she ended up passing away. So I absolutely understand where you come from. Don't be shy about it. It's important that others respect you and your parenting.

@witchymama I am so sorry that you lost your little one because of this. It's so easy for someone to just say that they are sick or that their kids are.

WOW! I can’t believe they would send you articles like that.
My mother in law is like that to a point. She wouldn’t tell me someone in the house is sick until I’m there with my son. Then she’ll try to explain it away, so she knows what she’s doing.

@mrs.hibben I know. My husband was like Omg what are you going to say and I looked at him and said absolutely nothing, because I love you, but understand when my answer is no when we are asked to come to something with them...It sucks so much. How do you deal with it?
Hibben ·
@mct, I made my husband talk to his family. Our situation isn’t as bad as yours. But his family should understand and be excepting. They shouldn’t want their grandchild to go through all that for a cold. It’s just stupid!

@mrs.hibben my husband hates confrontation so he has gotten to the point where he just says we shouldn't go since they can't respect us. Then when we try it they start telling everyone horrible things about me and say I'm turning him against them. Sometimes I wish he would just say that he is the one making the decisions on not coming, not me.
Hibben ·
@mct, My husband hates confrontation too. He would go to his mom usually because it’s easier for him to talk to her. I’m sure my in laws feel like I’ve brainwashed their son but whatever. There are still things that my mother in law will do and we’ve asked her so many times. I’m trying to pick my battles.
You guys definitely need to talk to them. At least try and if it doesn’t help then it’s on them. They obviously don’t understand why it’s a big deal. They don’t understand your situation.
