Looking for some insight from someone with experience hopefully. My 2 yr old tested positive for strep last night. He also has a blistered rash all over his legs and diaper area. He was prescribed amoxicillin for the strep and acyclovir for the rash. The doctor said the antibiotic will give him diarrhea. His poor butt is covered in open sores and diarrhea is gonna hurt him so bad. I’m iffy about giving it to him so my question is is it necessary? His fever broke two days ago and he’s fine except for the awful rash. I looked it up and the inter webs say that the antibiotic is to prevent rheumatic fever. Any advice is appreciated.

Do the antibiotics if strep goes untreated it can turn into something bad

Do not leave strep untreated. That’s something you DO NOT mess with. I’m very much antibiotics only when needed and you need to give them to him.
Give him yogurts and probiotics while on the antibiotics

@laniejay, Thank You, I am also antibiotics only when needed and I’m so nervous for his butt 😫 I’ll start them this morning. He’s already on daily probiotics so that makes me feel a little better and still nursing as well.
I’ve always been told not to use steroid creams on the diaper area, what are your opinions on that? I made an ointment with lanolin, beeswax, and aloe that I’ve been putting on it to keep it protected from urine/feces and making sure his diaper stays dry.

I’m not a fan of steroid creams at all, but if he’s miserable I would put it on his legs. Use your cream on the diaper area. My go to for rashes is to alternate an arnica based salve and calendula cream.
