It took him over a year for him to get his dreads to fully lock up and keeping them locked has been especially difficult considering we do everything as naturally as we can. That’s really cool! I went through a time where I wanted dreads but I always heard that they get nasty and the only way to get them out is to cut your hair 🤭. I just couldn’t bring myself up to it. Lol.
@mortonmining they can be clean if you know what your doing... / washing them tends to loosen them up and depending on the shampoo and conditioner you use there could be build up which is a lot to blame for the ickiness... using beeswax and any other kind of thick adhesive / Locker also causes buildup. If you use things like organic tea tree oil- that's an antifungal and cleaner and reduces buildup and it's much easier to keep them clean that way. Over washing your hair isn't good for it anyway and I know dreads are associated with dirty hair because it's not washed as often but like I said if it's done right it can be well maintained
